Mumbai, August 13, 2024 – In a significant move to expand its reach within the Indian market, Škoda Auto India has officially registered its vehicles on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal. This strategic alignment enables various government bodies across India to directly purchase Škoda cars, marking a new chapter in public procurement through the digital platform.
Revolutionizing Public Procurement
GeM, managed by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, is poised to become the world’s largest government e-procurement portal, surpassing South Korea’s KONEPS by the end of the fiscal year. The platform serves as an online marketplace that facilitates the procurement of goods and services by central and state government ministries, departments, public enterprises, autonomous institutions, and local government bodies. It operates within a completely paperless, cashless, and contactless environment, streamlining the procurement process and bringing a new level of efficiency, transparency, and inclusivity.
Škoda’s Digital Debut on GeM
Škoda Auto India’s entry into GeM allows government entities to seamlessly add Škoda vehicles to their fleets, enhancing their transportation capabilities with high-quality, locally manufactured cars. The first government procurement of a Škoda vehicle through GeM has already been completed, symbolizing the successful integration of Škoda into this digital procurement ecosystem.
Promoting Made-in-India Excellence
Škoda is offering two of its popular models, the Kushaq SUV and the Slavia sedan, on the GeM portal. Both vehicles are built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, a testament to collaborative engineering efforts between India and the Czech Republic, specifically tailored for the Indian market. These models, which have earned a 5-star safety rating under Global NCAP’s latest protocols, reflect Škoda’s commitment to safety, innovation, and local manufacturing. The Kushaq and Slavia are available with a range of engine options, including 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI, paired with either a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic, or seven-speed DSG transmission.
This partnership not only streamlines the procurement process for government bodies but also supports the broader initiative of promoting Made-in-India products on a global stage. As GeM continues to grow, Škoda Auto India’s presence on the platform reinforces its position as a key player in the Indian automotive industry.
