Sunderland, UK – The automotive world is abuzz as the newly upgraded Nissan Qashqai rolls off the production line at Nissan’s Sunderland plant, solidifying its status as the UK’s highest-volume vehicle and the original crossover. With UK pricing announced and orders opening next month, the Qashqai’s latest iteration is set to impress with its bold design and advanced technology.
Eighteen years after the first Qashqai created the crossover segment, more than four million customers in over 100 countries can attest to its enduring appeal. The 2024 model, electrified with Nissan’s unique e-Power system, represents a significant step forward, thanks to a £30 million investment in the Sunderland plant, part of Nissan’s £6 billion UK investment.
The refreshed Qashqai is now in production, embodying Nissan’s EV36Zero vision—a blueprint for sustainable automotive manufacturing that integrates electric vehicle production and battery manufacturing, all powered by renewable energy.
“We’re incredibly proud to call Sunderland the home of the Qashqai,” said Adam Pennick, Nissan’s Vice President for Manufacturing in the UK. “Having the number one team behind the number one crossover is a winning formula, and we can’t wait for our customers to experience the new design and enhanced technology.”
The Sunderland plant, which also produces the Nissan JUKE and the all-electric Nissan LEAF, supports 7,000 jobs in the UK. This includes roles at Nissan’s Design Centre in London, the Technical Centre in Bedfordshire, and the parts centre in Lutterworth, alongside 30,000 jobs in the UK supply chain.
The third-generation Qashqai, launched in 2021, has sold over 350,000 units in Europe, continuing to set the standard for crossovers. Its e-POWER variant offers an EV-like driving experience without the need for charging, appealing to those not yet ready for a full electric vehicle.
The 2024 Qashqai features substantial interior and exterior updates, including a 12.3″ infotainment screen, Google Automotive Services, and advanced driver assistance systems. The new N-Design grade, priced from £34,845, introduces bold aesthetic upgrades and 20″ alloy wheels for enhanced road presence.
Nissan GB has announced that the new Qashqai will start from £30,135. With its innovative e-POWER technology, the new model promises to deliver high torque and a linear response, providing a seamless driving experience.
The Qashqai’s updated Around View Monitor now includes a 3D function, offering eight different external camera viewpoints to help drivers navigate tight spaces. This system, along with other advanced features, ensures the Qashqai remains a top choice for drivers seeking cutting-edge technology and design.
Diana Torres, managing director of Nissan GB, highlighted the Qashqai’s pivotal role in the UK automotive industry. “The original Qashqai pioneered the crossover category and has become an iconic vehicle. These latest upgrades will reinforce its position as one of the nation’s favourite new cars.”
As Nissan continues to drive towards a sustainable future with its EV36Zero project, the Qashqai’s latest evolution underscores the brand’s commitment to innovation and excellence in automotive manufacturing.
