Mahindra Treo Plus Review: Electrifying Urban Mobility with Eco-Friendly Innovation

The Mahindra Treo Plus, an electric auto launched in India in 2018, represents the first generation of its kind. Available in two models: the Soft Top, priced at an ex-showroom cost of INR 3.44 lakhs, and the Hardtop, with a price tag of INR 3.52 lakhs, the Soft Top SFT variant is the focus here. Classified under the L5M vehicle category, the Treo Plus is a four-seater electric vehicle.

Mahindra also offers a pickup model under the name Treo Zor. The Treo Plus boasts an impressive range of 167 kilometers, with other models like the Treo offering a range of 130 kilometers and the Treo Yaari providing 80 kilometers. Over 100,000 Treo units have been sold, underlining its popularity.

Mahindra provides a warranty of 3 years or 80,000 kilometers for the Treo Plus, which can be extended to 5 years or 120,000 kilometers. The vehicle is designed with a 12.45-degree gradeability. It features a lightweight steel space frame chassis, offering strength despite its lower weight, and is equipped with dust and waterproof IP67 rated motors.

The Treo Plus comes with a weather-resistant flex canopy, with an option for a roto-molded hardtop. Its dimensions include a length of 2.7 meters, a width of 1.3 meters, a height of 1.7 meters, and a ground clearance of 142 mm, with a turning radius of 2.9 meters. The gross weight stands at 701 kg for the soft top and 713 kg for the hard top.

This electric auto is fitted with 12-inch steel wheels, drum brakes on both front and rear, and 3.75-12 66E 4PR MRF E-Savari tube type tires. Suspension features include a front damper with hydraulic shock absorber and helical spring, and a rear hydraulic damper with a rigid axle and leaf spring.

The vehicle is also equipped with a telematics unit and GPS system, complemented by the Nemo Driver app, which allows access to several features such as critical notifications, roadside assistance, vehicle monitoring, range monitoring, location tracking, charging status alerts, trip planning, and much more.

Additional features include roof-mounted grab handles, an FNR (forward, neutral, reverse) button, and a 10.24 kWh Lithium-Ion battery, delivering 10 horsepower, 42 Nm of torque, a top speed of 55 kmph, and a range of 167 km, though typically a range of 150 km can be expected. The battery can be fully charged in 3.5 hours with a 3 kW charger. The vehicle includes a 15 ampere charger and its battery box is certified under AIS 156 safety norms.

Exploring the world of electric three-wheelers reveals a gem in the Mahindra Treo Plus, a vehicle designed to meet the needs of the modern-day driver with an eye for efficiency, performance, and sustainability. Let’s delve into what makes the Treo Plus not just a vehicle, but a leap forward in electric vehicle (EV) technology.

Starting with its best-in-class 2073 mm wheelbase, the Treo Plus stands out in its segment. This extended wheelbase not only provides superior stability on the roads but also ensures ample legroom for both the driver and passengers, enhancing the overall comfort and ergonomics of the ride.

In an era where fuel costs are soaring, the Treo Plus emerges as a beacon of savings. By driving this electric three-wheeler, one can potentially save up to ₹1.2 lakh annually compared to CNG vehicles, assuming a daily commute of 175 km. Over five years, these savings can balloon up to ₹8 lakh when compared to diesel autos and ₹6 lakh versus CNG autos, making the Treo Plus not just an environmentally friendly option but also an economically wise choice.

The option to switch between Boost and Economy drive modes allows drivers to tailor the vehicle’s performance to their immediate needs, whether they are looking for more range or more power.

Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited has thoughtfully designed the Treo Plus with features like Hill Hold Assist to prevent rollback on inclines and asbestos-free brake liners for smoother, safer stops. The vehicle’s dent-free, rust-proof SMC body panels not only contribute to its sturdiness but also to its aesthetic appeal.

Owning a Treo Plus means being backed by Mahindra’s extensive service network, with over 1150 touchpoints across India. This network, combined with the Nemo Driver App, provides an unparalleled support system, offering 24×7 roadside assistance, service reminders, and even helps in planning trips and locating nearby charging stations.

The Mahindra Treo Plus is more than just an electric three-wheeler; it’s a testament to Mahindra’s commitment to pioneering EV technology and providing sustainable, efficient, and affordable transportation solutions. Whether it’s the savings it offers, its environmental benefits, or its advanced features designed for the comfort and convenience of the driver, the Treo Plus stands as a shining example of the future of urban mobility.
