Mumbai: Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e 4MATIC at ₹3.35 crore, marking the arrival of the first electrified Mercedes-Maybach in the Indian market. Only 30 units of the plug-in hybrid luxury limousine will initially be available in the country.
The new S 580e combines a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system and 4Matic all-wheel drive, producing a combined 585 hp and 750 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through Mercedes-Benz’s 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.
Its electrified powertrain gives the Maybach a WLTP-certified pure-electric driving range of up to 98 km. Mercedes-Benz says real-world electric driving range can approach 100 km with recuperation, while the limousine can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h without using its petrol engine.
The S 580e can be charged using an 11 kW AC charger or at up to 60 kW using a compatible DC fast charger. Mercedes-Benz will also provide a complimentary home charging solution with every vehicle.
The launch broadens Mercedes-Benz India’s top-end electrified portfolio while retaining the lavish rear-seat experience traditionally associated with the Maybach badge.
Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said:
“The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e perfectly reflects our strategy of offering the most desirable luxury portfolio, while offering customers the freedom to choose the technology that best suits their lifestyle. We are seeing rising demand for Plug-In-Hybrid among our top-end customers, and the Maybach S 580e combines the timeless exclusivity, handcrafted luxury and iconic luxury of a Maybach with the convenience of a plug-in hybrid technology. With ICE, BEV and PHEV models in our portfolio, Mercedes Benz is uniquely positioned to offer diverse luxury mobility solution, ensuring performance, sustainability and luxury.”

Four-seat First-Class cabin for India
The India-spec Mercedes-Maybach S 580e will be offered exclusively in a four-seat First-Class configuration.
At the rear are individual Executive seats separated by a full-length Business Centre Console, along with folding tables, wireless charging and temperature-controlled cup holders.
The Rear Comfort Package Plus adds features including climatised seats, adaptive ambient lighting, rear MBUX controls and additional comfort equipment. The Energizing Package also incorporates functions such as calf massage.
Automatic comfort doors further underline the S-Class’s chauffeur-driven brief.
In other words, Maybach continues to treat the rear seat less like a place to travel and more like somewhere an important meeting might accidentally break out.
Burmester 4D sound system gets 31 speakers
Audio duties are handled by a Burmester High-End 4D Surround Sound System featuring 31 speakers, eight exciters and a system output of 1,610 watts.
The setup supports Dolby Atmos, personalised audio settings and wireless headphones for the rear entertainment system.
Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the limousine with its latest digital architecture, including MB.OS and an MBUX Superscreen arrangement.
Technology includes a front-passenger display with a privacy function, a 3D driver’s display, augmented-reality navigation and a head-up display.
585 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain
The S 580e’s six-cylinder plug-in hybrid system produces 585 hp and 750 Nm.
Mercedes-Benz has provided several driving modes suited to the electrified drivetrain, including Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold modes. Drivers can also adjust the level of regenerative braking, including a one-pedal driving function.
For owners wanting to use the vehicle predominantly on electricity for urban journeys, the near-100 km electric capability potentially allows a considerable proportion of everyday driving to be completed without running the combustion engine.
The company quotes a WLTP-certified weighted combined fuel efficiency figure of 34.48 kmpl, although plug-in hybrid fuel-consumption figures depend heavily on how frequently the battery is charged and how the vehicle is driven.
Up to 60 kW DC fast charging
Unlike many plug-in hybrids that rely primarily on AC charging, the Maybach supports DC fast charging at up to 60 kW in addition to its 11 kW AC onboard charger.
It also receives access to MB.Charge Public Stations for compatible public charging infrastructure.
When operating quietly in electric mode at low speeds, an Acoustic Presence Indicator generates an exterior sound to alert pedestrians and other road users.
AIRMATIC uses navigation data
The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e comes with Airmatic air suspension incorporating cloud-based functionality through MB.OS.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the system can use real-time navigation information to anticipate road conditions and modify damping accordingly.
Rear-axle steering is also standard and can be extended to an angle of up to 10 degrees. The system is designed to reduce the car’s turning circle at lower speeds while improving stability at higher speeds — useful technology when manoeuvring a limousine whose natural habitat includes everything from expressways to rather tighter hotel entrances.
Level 2 driver assistance and 15 airbags
The S 580e receives MB.Drive Assist Level 2 advanced driver-assistance technology.
Distance Assist Distronic can maintain a predetermined distance from traffic ahead, while Steering Assist provides lane-guidance support.
Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the car with Pre-safe technology and a restraint system comprising 15 airbags.
Safety equipment includes Pre-safe Impulse and Pre-safe Impulse Side, along with a centre airbag, rear side airbags, belt bags and what Mercedes-Benz describes as a rear tubular front protection airbag.
Guard 360° Vehicle Protection Plus adds theft-prevention, intrusion-detection and vehicle-security functions.
Digital Light with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus is standard and automatically adjusts the distribution of the headlamp beam according to road and traffic conditions.
Illuminated Maybach grille and Manufaktur detailing
Externally, the S 580e retains the distinctive visual treatment expected of a Maybach S-Class.
The radiator grille is illuminated, while a Maybach logo projection displays the marque’s pattern on the ground as passengers approach the vehicle. Illuminated front and rear door sills carry Maybach lettering.
Mercedes-Benz is also offering Manufaktur Exclusive two-tone finishes.
Inside, the limousine can be specified with Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather in crystal white and silver-grey pearl, Manufaktur piano-lacquer trim and a handcrafted crystal-white Nappa leather roof liner.
Further details include specially finished seat backrests, a wood-and-leather multifunction steering wheel, designer seat-belt buckles and deep-pile floor mats.
Even the vehicle key receives special treatment, finished in high-gloss white with rose-gold detailing — a small reminder that at this end of the market, apparently no object is too small to be given the luxury treatment.
Mercedes-Maybach expands electrified portfolio in India
The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e occupies an unusual position between a conventional petrol-powered flagship limousine and a fully electric luxury car.
Its plug-in hybrid system allows shorter journeys to be completed solely on electric power while retaining a petrol engine for longer-distance travel, giving buyers another drivetrain option alongside Mercedes-Benz India’s existing internal-combustion and battery-electric offerings.
With just 30 examples available at launch and a ₹3.35 crore price tag, the S 580e will remain an exceptionally rare sight on Indian roads. More significantly, its arrival shows that electrification is now moving into even the most traditional corners of the chauffeur-driven ultra-luxury segment.
