New Delhi: Kia India has launched the Syros EV, its second made-in-India mass-market electric vehicle, at a starting price of ₹13.49 lakh for the 42 kWh battery version. The larger 51.4 kWh Extended Range variant has been priced from ₹16.99 lakh, with nationwide sales scheduled to begin on July 30.
The electric SUV will be available in seven trims across the two battery configurations. Kia claims an ARAI-certified MIDC Full range of 443 km for the 42 kWh model and 526 km for the Extended Range version, making the latter the first vehicle in its segment to cross the 500 km mark, according to the company.
Alongside the vehicle, Kia has introduced a collection of financing, warranty and resale programmes intended to address some of the most persistent concerns surrounding electric vehicle ownership — notably battery longevity, upfront cost and resale value.
These include a Battery-as-a-Service, or BaaS, programme, an assured buyback scheme and what Kia calls a Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty.
Battery-as-a-Service lowers initial vehicle cost
Under the BaaS programme, the vehicle and battery are financed separately through a dual-loan structure. Kia says ownership can begin at ₹7.99 lakh, with the battery financed at an EMI calculated from ₹3.30 per kilometre.
The arrangement reduces the initial amount paid for the vehicle, although the overall cost of ownership will depend on financing terms, kilometres driven and the conditions attached to the battery agreement.
The Syros EV is also covered by a high-voltage battery warranty lasting 15 years with unlimited kilometres for the first owner. The warranty does not apply to commercial vehicles, including taxis and fleet-operated cars.
For a second owner, the battery warranty will be valid for eight years or 1,60,000 km, whichever comes first.
Kia offers up to 80% assured resale value
Kia has announced an introductory assured buyback programme offering a resale value of up to 80% after three years.
The offer will be available to customers purchasing the Syros EV within 60 days of its launch. Kia said the programme would continue after the introductory period, though under revised terms.
Customers will be able to choose three- or four-year tenures with different annual mileage limits. At the end of the selected term, they can retain the vehicle, return it or replace it with another model.
The initiative seeks to reduce uncertainty over EV depreciation, a concern that can loom almost as large as range anxiety — only with fewer charging stations and more spreadsheets.
Kia is additionally offering a service package called My Convenience e-Plus, combining scheduled maintenance, extended warranty coverage and roadside assistance. It will be offered as a four-year Premium package or a five-year Luxury package, with the latter extending roadside assistance through the fourth and fifth years.
Two battery packs and up to 171 PS
The Syros EV’s 51.4 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery powers an electric motor producing 171 PS. Kia says this version can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in 8.1 seconds.
The smaller 42 kWh battery variant offers a claimed MIDC Full range of 443 km, while the larger pack delivers a claimed 526 km.
Both versions support DC fast charging, with Kia quoting a 10% to 80% charging time of 39 minutes when connected to a 100 kW charger.
A battery-conditioning function adjusts the battery temperature to improve charging performance. The vehicle also comes with a 10.8 kW onboard AC charger.
The battery carries an IP67 protection rating and uses a liquid-cooled thermal-management system designed to operate across varying weather and temperature conditions in India.
The Syros EV is based on Kia’s reinforced K1 platform and includes regenerative-braking paddle shifters, an automatic regeneration mode, i-Pedal single-pedal driving and an internal Vehicle-to-Load function.
Other EV-specific equipment includes a Virtual Engine Sound System, battery heating and a column-mounted shift-by-wire selector.
Charging access through K-Charge network
Syros EV owners will have access to Kia’s K-Charge platform through the MyKia application and the company’s website.
Kia says the service integrates more than 20,300 charging points operated by 23 charging-network providers. Drivers can use the platform to find chargers, navigate to them and make payments through a unified wallet.
The company has also equipped more than 129 Kia dealerships with high-capacity DC fast chargers. It currently has over 275 EV-ready workshops as part of a wider network of more than 900 customer touchpoints across 400 cities.
The charging network is supported by an integrated route planner and charging controls intended to help drivers plan longer journeys.
Familiar Syros design receives EV-specific details
The electric version retains the Syros’ upright SUV proportions while receiving design elements intended to distinguish it from its internal-combustion counterpart.
The front features Kia’s Digital Tiger Face, Ice Cube MFR LED headlamps, LED fog lamps and Star Map LED daytime running lamps with integrated indicators.
At the rear, the SUV gets Star Map LED tail lamps. Other exterior features include flush-style automatic door handles, gloss-black skid plates with aerodynamic inserts, gloss-black roof rails and EV-specific side garnishes.
Wheel options include 16-inch units and 17-inch crystal-cut dual-tone aerodynamic alloy wheels.
Cabin gets three-screen panoramic panel
Inside, the Syros EV is equipped with a 30-inch-wide Trinity Panoramic Display Panel consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen navigation system and a 5-inch climate-control display.
Connectivity features include Kia Connect 2.0 with more than 95 functions, over-the-air software updates, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a wireless smartphone charger.
A Harman Kardon eight-speaker audio system is also available.
The rear seats have a 60:40 split arrangement and can slide and recline. Depending on the trim, comfort equipment includes ventilated front seats, ventilated rear-seat bases, a four-way powered driver’s seat and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.
Other features include 64-colour front ambient lighting, LED footwell lamps, a dual-camera dashboard camera, rear-door sunshades and multiple USB Type-C charging ports. A 100-watt front USB-C charging port is also provided.
The Syros EV offers a 16-litre front storage compartment, commonly known as a frunk, with a dedicated cover.
Level 2 ADAS and six airbags standard
The electric SUV is equipped with Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems offering 16 autonomous functions, according to Kia.
The suite includes forward collision-avoidance assistance for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, as well as assistance for junction turning and approaching oncoming traffic.
Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Following Assist are also included.
Parking assistance is provided through a 360-degree camera, Blind View Monitor, reverse parking collision-avoidance assistance and front, rear and side parking sensors.
Kia says the Syros EV carries 25 standard safety features, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-start Assist Control, Brake Assist, a highline tyre-pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX child-seat anchors.
Rear Occupant Alert and an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold are also standard.

Nine exterior colours available
The Syros EV will be offered in nine exterior colours: Glacier White Pearl, Frost Blue, Gravity Grey, Pewter Olive, Magma Red, Ivory Silver Matte, Ivory Silver Gloss, Aurora Black Pearl and Xclusive Matte Graphite.
Xclusive Matte Graphite will be restricted to the X-Line Extended Range version.
Three interior colour combinations will be offered: Cloud Blue and Grey, Onyx Black and Off-White, and Onyx Black and Hunter Green. The Hunter Green combination will be exclusive to selected versions.
With competitive pricing, two substantial claimed range figures and programmes targeting battery and resale concerns, the Syros EV arrives as Kia’s attempt to make electric ownership easier to calculate and, perhaps more importantly, easier to trust. Its success will ultimately depend not only on laboratory-certified range or equipment lists, but also on how convincingly the ownership promises hold up after the showroom paperwork is complete.
