Kia Syros EV Breaks Cover With Two Battery Options, 526 km Claimed Range

NEW DELHI: Kia India has unveiled the Syros EV, its second mass-market electric vehicle for the country, offering two battery-pack options and an ARAI-certified range of up to 526 km. Pre-bookings opened on Wednesday for ₹25,000 through Kia’s website and dealerships across India.

Positioned as an electric SUV for family buyers, the Syros EV will be available with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery packs. The larger battery delivers an ARAI-certified MIDC Full range of 526 km, while the smaller unit is rated at 443 km.

Kia claims the 526 km figure is the highest in the vehicle’s segment and makes the Syros EV the first model in its category to cross the 500 km mark under the certification cycle. Real-world range, as always, will depend on driving conditions, temperature, traffic and driving style — variables that rarely read the brochure.

The Syros EV produces up to 171 PS and can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in 8.1 seconds when equipped with the 51.4 kWh battery. Its battery uses Nickel Manganese Cobalt chemistry and receives IP67 protection along with a liquid-cooled thermal management system.

The electric SUV supports DC fast charging at up to 100 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in a claimed 39 minutes. It also receives a 10.8 kW onboard AC charger and a battery-conditioning system designed to optimise battery temperature before rapid charging.

Kia is pairing the model with a Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty, an Assured Buyback programme and a Battery-as-a-Service financing option. The measures are intended to address concerns surrounding battery durability, resale value and the initial purchase cost of electric vehicles. Detailed terms and eligibility conditions for the Lifetime warranty were not included in the announcement.

Commenting on the announcement, Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India, said, “Our philosophy of ‘Movement that Inspires’ is about making future mobility meaningful, accessible and enriching for our customers. With the Syros EV, our second mass-market electric vehicle for India, we are democratizing advanced electric mobility — not only through cutting-edge technology, but by removing the anxieties that hold customers back. The Syros EV delivers a best-in-segment ARAI-certified range of 526 km — the first in its segment to cross the 500 km mark. Paired with a best-in-segment power output of 171 PS, it gives customers the confidence to go further without compromising on performance. Backed by a simplified and effortless ownership experience, including a Lifetime* Battery Warranty, Assured Buyback and BaaS, we are addressing what matters most to Indian families, bringing them a decisive step closer to going electric.”

K-Charge network covers over 20,300 charging points

The Syros EV will be supported by Kia’s K-Charge ecosystem, integrated into the MyKia mobile application. According to the company, the platform brings together more than 20,300 public charging points operated by 23 charge-point companies.

Drivers can locate chargers, plan routes and make payments using a single wallet within the app. Kia said 129 or more of its dealerships have high-capacity DC fast chargers, while over 275 workshops are equipped to service electric vehicles.

The Syros EV also offers regenerative-braking paddle shifters, an automatic regeneration mode and an i-Pedal function that permits greater single-pedal operation. Other EV-specific equipment includes an internal Vehicle-to-Load facility, battery heating, a Digital Key, Virtual Engine Sound System and column-mounted shift-by-wire controls.

Three-screen panoramic display

Inside, the Syros EV receives what Kia calls a first-in-segment 76.20 cm, or 30-inch, Trinity Panoramic Display Panel.

The layout combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen navigation and infotainment system, and a 5-inch climate-control interface. It is supported by Kia Connect 2.0, offering more than 95 connected-car functions, along with over-the-air software updates.

Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Harman Kardon eight-speaker audio system and a wireless smartphone charger are among the major cabin features.

The rear seats receive a 60:40 split, along with sliding and reclining functions. Equipment includes ventilated front seats and ventilated rear-seat bases, a four-way powered driver’s seat, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting and a dual-camera dashboard recorder.

Other features include rear-door sunshades, multiple USB Type-C charging points, a 100-watt front USB-C port and a 16-litre front storage compartment, or frunk.

Level 2 ADAS and six airbags standard

The Syros EV comes with Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems offering 16 automated functions, according to Kia.

These include forward collision-avoidance assistance for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, junction-turning assistance, smart cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane-keeping assistance, lane-following assistance, driver-attention warning and automatic high-beam assistance.

A 360-degree camera, blind-view monitor, reverse parking collision-avoidance assistance and front, rear and side parking sensors are also available.

Kia said the electric SUV will have 25 standard safety features, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill-start Assist Control, Brake Assist System, tyre-pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages and a rear-occupant alert.

All-wheel disc brakes and an electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function will also be offered.

EV-specific exterior details

The Syros EV retains the upright profile of the petrol-powered Syros but receives styling changes intended to distinguish it as an electric model.

These include Kia’s Digital Tiger Face, Ice Cube MFR LED headlamps, LED fog lamps and Star Map LED daytime-running lights with integrated turn indicators. Star Map LED tail lamps feature at the rear.

Depending on the variant, the electric SUV will be offered with 16-inch wheels or 17-inch dual-tone aerodynamic alloy wheels. It also gets flush-fitting automatic door handles, gloss-black skid plates, aerodynamic inserts and gloss-black roof rails.

Seven trims and nine exterior colours

Kia will offer the Syros EV in seven trims spread across the two battery configurations.

Nine exterior colour choices have been announced: Glacier White Pearl, Frost Blue, Gravity Grey, Pewter Olive, Magma Red, Ivory Silver Matte, Ivory Silver Gloss and Aurora Black Pearl. The X-Line Extended Range version will additionally be available in Xclusive Matte Graphite with Aurora Black Pearl.

Interior themes will include Cloud Blue and Grey, Onyx Black and Off-White, and an X-Line-exclusive Onyx Black and Hunter Green combination.

Kia has not yet announced the Syros EV’s prices or confirmed when customer deliveries will begin. Those details will ultimately determine how effectively the new model competes in India’s increasingly crowded electric SUV market, where range figures attract attention but price, charging access and long-term ownership costs usually close the deal.
