Bengaluru: Bharat Stars Services Private Limited has partnered with fleet technology company Netradyne to deploy an artificial intelligence-powered safety platform across its aviation fuelling operations at airports in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
The deployment will bring Netradyne’s Driver•i platform to the company’s fleet of refuellers, dispensers and other fuelling vehicles operating in closely controlled airside environments.
Bharat Stars Services Private Limited, or BSSPL, is a joint venture between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Singapore-based ST Airport Services Pte. Ltd.
Airport fuelling is considered one of aviation’s most safety-sensitive ground operations. Vehicles routinely operate close to aircraft, ground-support equipment and airport personnel, often within restricted areas and under strict speed limits. In such surroundings, even a brief lapse in attention can become considerably more serious than an ordinary parking mishap.
According to Netradyne, its platform uses computer vision and edge AI to analyse 100% of driving time rather than recording only selected incidents or events.
The system is designed to identify signs of driver fatigue, drowsiness, distraction and unsafe vehicle handling. When a potential risk is detected, the platform provides audible in-cab alerts, allowing drivers to take corrective action immediately.
The technology can also issue collision warnings when vehicles face possible risks involving aircraft, equipment or personnel on the tarmac.
The companies said the real-time intervention capability could reduce dependence on reviews conducted only after an incident has occurred. It is intended to add another layer of oversight to existing operating procedures rather than replace established airport safety protocols.
The Driver•i platform also records positive driving behaviour through Netradyne’s GreenZone® safety scoring framework. BSSPL will be able to use the system to compare safety performance across its workforce and identify both areas requiring improvement and practices that are already working effectively.
JP Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Bharat Stars Services Limited, said: “Our ground operations teams work around the clock 24/7, 365 days a year in some of the most demanding environments at an airport. We have always maintained rigorous safety standards and protocols, but the reality of round-the-clock operations is that fatigue, distraction, and momentary lapses can occur even among the most experienced and disciplined operators. Netradyne gives us an additional layer of real-time support, helping us detect these risks as they happen and intervene before they become incidents. It enhances the safety culture we’ve built over the years.”
Durgadutt Nedungadi, Senior Vice President, India, APAC & Middle East, Netradyne, said: “Airside fuelling is an environment where precision, compliance, and situational awareness are critical at every moment. BSSPL’s decision to deploy Netradyne across its operations demonstrates a forward-looking approach to safety that goes beyond compliance. We are proud to support their mission of building a safer, more accountable airside ecosystem at some of India’s busiest airports.”
The partnership reflects the growing use of real-time monitoring and driver-assistance technology in specialised airport fleets. While technology cannot eliminate every operational risk, its ability to flag fatigue, distraction and collision hazards before an incident occurs could prove particularly valuable in an environment where there is little room — quite literally — for error.
