Mumbai: Tata EV has launched the all-new Sierra.ev in India at an introductory starting price of ₹18.79 lakh, bringing back one of the country’s most recognised SUV nameplates in a fully electric avatar. Bookings for the Sierra.ev have opened, with deliveries scheduled to begin from July 15, 2026.
The company said the Sierra.ev will offer a claimed 665 km MIDC range and a 510–530 km C75 real-world range, along with a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty. The electric SUV also promises fast charging capability of up to 263 km in 15 minutes and a 0–100 km/hour sprint time of 5.8 seconds, figures that suggest Tata is not treating nostalgia as a substitute for horsepower.

Positioned as a premium mid-SUV, the Sierra.ev combines a dual-motor QWD setup, 306 PS of power and 504 Nm of torque with a long list of digital and comfort features. These include a triple-screen Theater Pro setup, Dolby Atmos, a 12-speaker JBL Black audio system with SonicShaft soundbar, HypAR head-up display, e-Valet functions such as Auto Park, Summon and Reverse Assist, and Digi Access for keyless entry and control.
Launching India’s most desirable SUV, the Sierra.ev, Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said: “The Sierra has always stood for more than just mobility. It has been an icon of innovation, aspiration and progress, bringing the future closer to customers. When reintroduced, it once again broke new ground by creating India’s premium mid-SUV segment. Today, with Sierra.ev, we are taking that legacy forward and setting a new benchmark for what an uncompromised premium SUV can be in the electric era. Combining exceptional real-world range, exhilarating performance, intelligent technology, indulgent comfort and go-anywhere capability, the Sierra.ev delivers an SUV experience that is as desirable as it is transformative.
The mid-SUV segment sits at the heart of India’s SUV market, shaped by a new generation of customers who see their vehicle as a reflection of their lifestyle, ambitions and identity. As EVs move firmly into the mainstream, desirability will be the defining catalyst for adoption. The Sierra.ev is designed to lead that shift. More than our most advanced SUV yet, it is a bold expression of the future – making electric mobility more appealing, accessible and compelling than ever before, while accelerating India’s journey towards a cleaner, zero-emission future.”
Tata EV said the launch comes at a time when electric mobility is moving deeper into India’s mainstream passenger vehicle market, helped by improving total cost of ownership, rising customer confidence, expanding charging infrastructure and a more mature EV ecosystem.
The Sierra.ev is built around three broad themes: “Luxury LifeSpace with Indulgent Technology”, “Real-Life Real-World EV Supremacy” and “Go Anywhere, Do Anything Performance”. In less corporate language, that means Tata is pitching it as a family SUV that can commute, travel, entertain and occasionally get its tyres muddy without needing a motivational speech from the driver.
Inside, the Sierra.ev features a Horizon View triple-screen layout with the Arcade.ev ecosystem, Dolby Atmos support, AirConsole in-car gaming using smartphones — claimed to be a first in India — and a 19-visual HypAR HUD. Other features include a PanoraMax sunroof, powered seats with thigh support extender, a powered gesture tailgate and a 622-litre boot, which the company describes as best in segment.
On the EV technology front, the Sierra.ev gets a 75 kWh battery pack, Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Vehicle capability, an Intelligent EV Route Planner for Android Auto, DrivePay for in-car UPI, commerce and charging payments, and the iRA.ev connected ecosystem with more than 70 features and 5G support. It also supports over-the-air updates through the T.iDAL 2.0 architecture.
Safety and assistance features include L2+ ADAS with 22 advanced driver assistance functions, a 540-degree HD surround-view camera, Transparent Mode and 4Sight Blind Spot View. The SUV also gets adaptive front and rear turn cameras for improved visibility.
For buyers looking beyond city driving, the Sierra.ev offers six terrain modes — Snow, Mud, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom among them — along with off-road assist for low-speed terrain control. The SUV has around 205 mm of ground clearance and more than 50% restart gradability, according to the company.
Tata EV is offering the Sierra.ev in seven colour palettes: Pristine White, Pure Grey, Coorg Clouds, Bengal Rouge, Andaman Adventure, the all-new Rishikesh Rapids on the Empowered persona, and the exclusive Nainital Nocturne on the Empowered A QWD persona.
With the Sierra.ev, Tata is attempting to blend the emotional pull of a familiar nameplate with the practical demands of modern electric mobility. Its success will depend not only on range, charging and features, but also on whether Indian SUV buyers are ready to see an old legend return with a charging port instead of a fuel cap.
