Mahindra’s Big Boys of the Road Roll Ahead: Trucks & Buses Business Grows 13% in February 2026

Mumbai: While SUVs may grab Instagram likes, it’s the trucks and buses that quietly keep India moving — and in February 2026, Mahindra’s heavy hitters proved exactly that.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. announced that its Trucks & Buses business (CV > 3.5T) recorded total sales of 3,018 vehicles, including exports, marking a healthy 13% year-on-year growth. In a segment often seen as the backbone of economic activity, the numbers signal steady momentum rather than just a lucky month.

Mahindra’s commercial vehicle portfolio in this category operates through two strong arms — the Mahindra Trucks & Buses Division (MTBD) and SML Mahindra Limited — covering a wide spectrum from heavy-duty trucks to buses catering to public and institutional mobility.

Industry Momentum Continues

Commenting on the performance, Vinod Sahay, Executive Chairman – SML and President – Aerospace, Defence, Trucks, Buses & Construction Equipment at M&M, noted that the commercial vehicle industry has shown strong momentum since the last quarter. He emphasized that ongoing government infrastructure investments, accelerated fleet modernization and stable freight movement are reinforcing confidence in the sector’s growth trajectory.

At the same time, he acknowledged that geopolitical developments and global uncertainties remain variables that the industry is closely monitoring — because even the toughest trucks can’t ignore global crosswinds.

More Than Just Metal on Wheels

The 13% growth may look modest compared to the fireworks seen in the SUV space, but in the commercial vehicle world, such steady double-digit expansion reflects deeper economic currents — rising infrastructure activity, highway projects, mining operations, logistics expansion and a continued push toward modernizing fleets with safer and more efficient vehicles.

In simple terms: when trucks sell, the economy usually isn’t idling.

With government capex spending staying strong and freight corridors buzzing, Mahindra’s Trucks & Buses business appears well-positioned to ride the momentum into the new financial year. And while these machines may not come with panoramic sunroofs or ambient lighting, they do come with something arguably more powerful — the ability to keep India’s growth engine humming.
