From Simulation to Acceleration: ARAI–Micelio Digital Twin Lab Goes Live, Electrifying India’s EV Future

Just when the electric vehicle (EV) industry thought it had seen enough innovation to short-circuit the competition, ARAI and Micelio flipped the switch — literally — on India’s first fully operational Digital Twin Lab, a technological marvel that might just make real-world EV testing feel a bit… old-fashioned.

The cutting-edge facility, operating under a ‘Hub-and-Spoke’ model, connects the Automobile Research Association of India (ARAI) in Pune (the hub) with Micelio Discovery Studio in Bengaluru and IIT Guwahati Tech Park (the spokes). Supported by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, the lab offers simulation-led testing for EVs, reducing development time, cost, and perhaps even the number of engineers losing sleep over thermal management.

⚙️ A Twin Win for EV Testing

Fully operational since June 2025, the lab doesn’t just simulate vehicles — it replicates reality in real-time. From battery packs to drivetrains, every hum, heat, and hiccup can be virtually tested before a single wheel hits the road. It’s like “EV karaoke,” but instead of singing badly, startups can rehearse perfectly before the big performance.

Dr. Reji Mathai, Director, ARAI, expressed his excitement with characteristic precision:

“ARAI is proud to announce the strategic expansion of its Digital Twinning services across India, extending from the western region to the eastern and southern parts of the country. As India advances towards intelligent and sustainable mobility, we are committed to empowering OEMs, startups, and automotive innovators with cutting-edge solutions.”

He also thanked the Ministry of Heavy Industries for powering this vision, and Micelio — described fondly as the “perfect co-pilot” in India’s tech-driven mobility journey.

🧠 Brains Meet Batteries

At its core, the Digital Twin Lab blends AI, machine learning, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing to model every scenario — from a Bengaluru traffic jam to a Ladakh hill climb. It’s the EV equivalent of a flight simulator, where vehicles can fail, fix, and fly again — without burning rubber or budgets.

Micelio’s Founder and Director, Mr. Shreyas Shibulal, added:

“This lab represents a fundamental shift in how India approaches EV innovation. By providing access to advanced digital twin infrastructure, we’re reducing time-to-market and enabling a new generation of Indian EV innovators to compete globally — while designing for Indian roads and realities.”

Startups and MSMEs can now validate prototypes without mortgaging their office chairs, making the EV innovation game more inclusive and faster than ever.

🌏 Aligned with India’s Tech & Green Vision

The Digital Twin Lab perfectly syncs with national missions — Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and the Digital Public Infrastructure framework. Its public showcase will be one of the highlights of Micelio’s Global Clean Mobility Summit 2025, themed “Next Starts Now: Sustain and Scale.”

As India accelerates toward a future of intelligent, low-carbon mobility, the ARAI–Micelio Digital Twin Lab stands as a living, humming proof that the country’s clean mobility vision isn’t just aspirational — it’s computationally operational.
