Honda Amaze Review: The Compact Sedan That Grew Up and Got ADAS

There are two kinds of people in India.
Those who buy SUVs… and those who buy sedans because “boot mein shaadi ka saman aa jaata hai.” And standing proudly in the second camp since 2013 is the Honda Amaze — the compact sedan that’s been quietly out-selling your neighbour’s loud Creta for over a decade, while sipping petrol politely and bowing like a Japanese butler.

Now in its 3rd generation, the 2024 Honda Amaze arrives like a well-dressed relative at a wedding: understated but refined, modern but still conservative enough to win over Dadi.

🏁 Design: Sporty, Protective, Progressive… and a Bit Like a Mini City

Honda says the new Amaze follows their “Sporty, Protective and Progressive” design language. Which in plain English means —

  • It looks sporty enough to impress your gym trainer,
  • protective enough to make your parents approve, and
  • progressive enough to give you ADAS before your neighbour’s 25-lakh SUV.

The chrome + gloss black chequered-flag grille looks like it’s permanently ready to say “Vande Mataram” on Independence Day. The automatic LED projector headlamps with DRLs, rain-sensing wipers, and wing-shaped LED tail lamps with emergency stop signals give it an almost “baby Civic” aura.

The 15-inch diamond-cut alloys give it a stylish stance, while the Radiant Red paint is bold enough to be spotted from a kilometre away during Baraat season.

📐 Dimensions: Compact Outside, Wedding-Ready Inside

At just under 4 metres in length, 1.7 m wide, and with a turning radius of 4.9 m, the Amaze is the definition of “ghar ke andar gaadi ghusa dena”. Parking in crowded Indian colonies is a breeze, and at 1000 kg kerb weight, it’s light enough to feel nimble — yet stable enough to not take off like a kite when the wind blows.

The 416-litre boot can swallow enough luggage for a Goa road trip or three relatives plus their pressure cookers for a wedding.

🛋 Interior: Beige, Practical, and Surprisingly Tech-Savvy

Step inside and the beige fabric upholstery welcomes you like a 5-star hotel lobby in Gurgaon — airy and respectable. Honda’s interior designers clearly had one motto: “No drama, only efficiency.”

You get:

  • 8-inch floating Advanced HD touchscreen with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay,
  • 7-inch HD TFT cluster that even shows G-Force readings (because obviously, your uncle needed to know his Amaze’s lateral acceleration in Karol Bagh traffic),
  • Automatic climate control with PM2.5 filter,
  • Wireless charger, soft-closing grab handles, and a driver’s side auto up-down window with pinch guard.

The Honda Connect app offers 37+ features including stolen vehicle tracking, geofencing, tyre pressure monitoring, and even Alexa integration. So yes — you can ask Alexa where your Amaze is while lying on your sofa. Truly, 2050 has arrived early.

🧰 Engine & Performance: I-VTEC Still Has That ‘VTEC Yo’ Spirit

Under the hood is a 1.2-litre, inline-4, SOHC, i-VTEC petrol engine. E20 compliant, of course — because ethanol is the new protein shake.

  • Power: 88 hp
  • Torque: 110 Nm
  • Mileage: 19 km/l (CVT) and 18 km/l (Manual)
  • Transmission: 5-speed manual or 7-step CVT

No, it won’t do 0–100 in 5 seconds. But it will carry you to work, weddings, or weekend drives without drama. The CVT is smooth and lazy, like a golden retriever on Sunday morning. Perfect for Indian cities where you spend more time in 2nd gear than 5th.

🧠 ADAS & Safety: The Little Sedan That Watches Over You

This is where the Amaze punches way above its weight. Honda calls it India’s most affordable ADAS-enabled car, and that’s not just marketing.

You get Honda Sensing features like:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System – slams the brakes if you’re busy adjusting your hair in the mirror.
  • Lane Keeping Assist – gently nudges you back if you drift during that 2-hour Delhi-Jaipur run.
  • Lead Car Departure Notification – because we all have that one relative who doesn’t move even after the signal turns green.
  • Road Departure Mitigation – ensures you don’t turn into a field because Google Maps said “turn left”.

Add to that 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, VSA, Hill Start Assist, ISOFIX, Lanewatch Camera, and a walk-away auto lock feature that automatically locks the car if you forget — like a desi mom who locks the gate after you leave.

🛠 Ride & Handling: Soft, Composed, and Very Honda

Suspension duties are handled by McPherson struts with coil springs at the front, and torsion beam with coil springs at the rear, paired with telescopic hydraulic nitrogen-filled shock absorbers. Translation: it rides like a champ over speed breakers and doesn’t make “thak-thak” sounds even after three years of Indian roads.

The steering is light for city use and stable at highway speeds. No, it won’t corner like a Civic Type-R, but it also won’t give you a heart attack on the Yamuna Expressway.

🧂 Features Galore: From Chrome Garnish to Ventilated Massage Seat

Honda’s accessories list for the Amaze reads like an Amazon wishlist:

  • Chrome garnish ✅
  • Illuminated scuff plates ✅
  • DVR ✅
  • Ventilated massager seat 😎 ✅
  • Humidifier (because why not) ✅
  • Keychain ✅
  • Spoiler for that fake racer look ✅

You can genuinely make your Amaze look like a “Mini City with a mission” if you go wild with these.

🏷 Pricing & Verdict: The Sensible Sedan With a Smart Brain

Prices start at ₹8 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to ₹10.89 lakh for this fully-loaded ZX trim. For that, you get ADAS, Honda reliability, sedan practicality, and a mild dose of tech sophistication that many sub-15-lakh SUVs still skip.

The Honda Amaze isn’t trying to be flashy.
It’s like that student in school who never topped the class but quietly got into IIT anyway.

It’s reliable, classy, smart, and with that i-VTEC heart — still a little bit fun.

🏁 Final Verdict:

The 2024 Honda Amaze is the most “sensible but secretly smart” sedan you can buy today.
Perfect for city drives, family duties, long road trips — and impressing Alexa.

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
– loses one star because 88 hp won’t win any drag races, but wins your heart in the long run.
