From Internet SUVs to AI Dreams: JSW MG Motor Engineers a Greener Tomorrow

Gurugram – On a day when the nation tips its hat (and drafting tools) to Sir M. Visvesvaraya, JSW MG Motor India decided to put the “engine” back in Engineers’ Day. The company marked the occasion by celebrating the tireless minds who turn nuts, bolts, and algorithms into the mobility of tomorrow—while casually redefining what it means to “think outside the gearbox.”

Over the past six years, MG’s engineers have been rather busy – bringing India everything from the country’s first Internet SUV (the Hector) to the first Pure Electric Internet SUV (the ZS EV), and most recently, the Windsor – which didn’t just sell, it charged out of showrooms faster than you could say “range anxiety.”

Manish Manek’s Blueprint for the Future

Speaking at the occasion, Manish Manek, Chief VLE (Vehicle Life Cycle Engineering) and Head PE at JSW MG Motor India, said:

“At JSW MG Motor India, we believe the future of mobility is being shaped by cutting-edge innovations that drive sustainable and inclusive nation-building. In the last 6 years, we’ve introduced several ‘firsts’ to the Indian market, from the MG Hector (India’s first Internet SUV), the MG ZS EV (India’s first Pure Electric Internet SUV) and the MG Windsor (India’s best-selling EV). The rapid evolution of EV technology, coupled with extensive localization in our manufacturing and R&D efforts, empowers us to develop solutions tailored for the diverse needs of India’s consumers. Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Driving are not just futuristic concepts but integral to modern automobile engineering, enabling smarter, safer, and more connected vehicles that enhance everyday journeys. As we continue to push the boundaries of engineering excellence, our commitment remains firm, to accelerate India’s transition to clean mobility, strengthen local ecosystems, and create impactful employment opportunities. This Engineers’ Day, we celebrate the relentless spirit of engineers who are pioneers of change, steering the industry towards a smarter, greener, and more self-reliant India.”

A Day for Gears, Codes, and Coffee

Engineers’ Day in India has been celebrated since 1968 to honour Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya—an engineer so legendary that modern engineers still whisper his name when their CAD files finally don’t crash. MG’s tribute doubled down on the idea that today’s automotive engineers aren’t just building cars; they’re building ecosystems, careers, and the occasional sci-fi-level dashboard AI that reminds you to hydrate.

Driving the Punchline Home

While the industry debates the perfect charging curve and the ideal mix of localisation, MG’s engineers quietly continue to prove one thing: whether it’s AI, EV, or ADAS, the best vehicle for progress is still powered by… engineers. And perhaps just a little extra coffee.
