Pipavav / New Delhi – The European streets are about to get a little more “desi current” as Maruti Suzuki India Limited (“Maruti Suzuki”) has officially kicked off exports of Suzuki’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara. Over 2,900 units, fresh off the production line in Hansalpur, Gujarat, have already set sail from Pipavav Port, headed for 12 European destinations including the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, and even the land of cheese and chocolate – Switzerland.
This milestone follows a charged-up ceremony at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself hailed the company as a true “brand ambassador” of the Make in India initiative. After all, what better way to showcase Indian engineering than by sending our first BEV to countries that practically invented the word “premium mobility”?
The e Vitara is manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant on the all-new HEARTECT-e platform. Designed to look sharp, drive sharper, and carry that unmistakable Maruti reliability, it’s a proud moment for India’s EV industry to see the compact SUV make its global debut not just in Milan and Delhi showcases, but now on European roads – right next to the Teslas and Volkswagens.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, put it best: “The Prime Minister’s recognition is an honour, but watching the e Vitara board ships for Europe feels like sending our child to study abroad—with the hope they make friends, impress professors, and don’t come back too spoiled.”
With exports slated to reach over 100 countries in the coming years, the e Vitara is expected to bring together the best of Indian manufacturing with global EV aspirations. Consider it India’s “electrifying ambassador” – carrying not just lithium-ion cells, but also a little bit of Gujarati pride, Delhi hustle, and Bollywood charm into Europe’s autobahns and boulevards.
Looks like the world is about to discover what Indian EVs are truly capable of—and yes, they come factory-fitted with a “Make in India, Make for the World” badge of honour.
