MG’s Onam Celebration Goes Electric: 306 EVs Bloom into Asia’s Biggest ‘CarKalam’

Kochi – Forget flowers, bring in horsepower! JSW MG Motor India has just reinvented the art of Pookalam by swapping petals for EVs, creating Asia’s largest CarKalam with a record-smashing 306 MG electric cars. The dazzling spectacle at Grand Hyatt Bolgatty not only lit up Kerala’s Onam celebrations but also drove straight into the Asia Book of Records – quite literally, in formation.

A Pookalam That Runs on Lithium Instead of Lotus

Inspired by Kerala’s traditional floral carpets, the CarKalam wasn’t your average backyard rangoli. This one came with headlights, tail lamps, and zero tailpipe emissions. Customers, dealers, and MG employees all joined hands (and charging cables) to craft a piece of living art that was as Instagrammable as it was record-breaking.

Festive Discounts, Double the Cheers

Under its Onam Avahanam campaign, MG didn’t just put on a show – it put smiles on showroom floors too. Special festive offers across the Hector, Gloster, Astor, Comet, and ZS EV had customers lining up faster than Payasam bowls at a Sadhya. The result? Sales doubled compared to last year, proving that nothing sells like a great deal wrapped in tradition (and maybe some banana leaves).

Voices from the Festival

“We’ve always known Keralites love colour, culture, and community. This time we just added charging ports,” joked Udit Malhotra, Head of Marketing at JSW MG Motor India. “It’s our way of saying Onam Ashamsakal – with extra volts!”

Asia Book of Records’ Senior Adjudicator, Vivek Nair, added, “We’ve seen rangolis made of flowers, rice, even spices. But 306 cars parked in perfect sync? That’s peak desi jugaad meets world-class execution.”

MG’s Kerala Connection

MG has been driving deep into God’s Own Country with over 543 touchpoints across India, ensuring service within 30 minutes – about the time it takes to finish a proper Onam feast. Its recently opened MG Select Experience Centre in Kochi is yet another testament to the brand’s love affair with Kerala.

With Asia’s largest CarKalam now in its bag, MG Motor India has proven that festivals don’t just bring people together – they can also bring cars together, provided there’s enough parking space and patience.
