Tata Motors & DIMO Roll Out 10 New Trucks and Buses in Sri Lanka: A 65-Year Friendship on Wheels

Colombo – Partnerships come and go, but some roll on with more horsepower than nostalgia. Tata Motors, India’s heavyweight champion of commercial vehicles, and DIMO, Sri Lanka’s trusted mobility partner, just celebrated 65 years of camaraderie by dropping a blockbuster line-up of 10 new trucks and buses. Think of it as a mobility buffet where logistics firms, transport operators, and bus fleet managers all get something to feast on.

A Legacy That Doesn’t Stall

This partnership isn’t just about selling vehicles—it’s a saga of “best friends forever” that started in the 1960s and has now entered its diamond jubilee lap. Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, summed it up perfectly: “We’re not just building trucks, we’re building efficiency, reliability, and maybe the occasional excuse for drivers to show off at tea breaks.”

Meanwhile, Ranjith Pandithage, Chairman of DIMO, reminded everyone why this duo is more dynamic than Batman and Robin, saying: “We’ve been redefining transport in Sri Lanka for six decades—and no, we’re not retiring anytime soon.”

Meet the Mobility Marvels

  • Cargo Champions: From the city-slicking Ultra T.7 to the muscle-packed Prima 5530.S, Tata’s trucks promise everything from fuel sipping to power lifting. Basically, the lineup has a solution whether you’re delivering coconuts to Colombo or steel beams to Kandy.
  • Passenger Pleasers: The new LPO 1622 Magna bus offers luxury so smooth you might forget you’re in a bus, while the Ultra Prime LPO range is designed to get staff to the office without testing their patience—or their backs.

Beyond Just Wheels

It’s not just about launching vehicles; Tata Motors and DIMO are ensuring the after-sales service is as dependable as the trucks themselves. With 15 service centres, extended warranty options, and custom AMC packages, they’ve essentially said: “Buy our truck, and we’ll stick with you longer than your mobile phone provider.”

Driving Into the Future

From sub-1 tonne mini trucks to mighty 60-tonne behemoths, Tata Motors already exports to 40+ countries. This Sri Lankan expansion is less about geography and more about philosophy: to keep fleets moving, costs optimized, and customers smiling (or at least less grumpy at fuel stops).

As the curtain rose on these 10 new models, one thing became clear: Tata Motors and DIMO aren’t just selling vehicles—they’re selling 65 years of trust, durability, and a future where mobility is as reliable as morning tea in Colombo.
