Mumbai: Tata Motors, India’s homegrown automotive giant, reported total sales of 70,187 units in May 2025—a slight detour from the 76,766 units clocked in May 2024. But if there’s one thing Tata knows, it’s how to navigate bumpy roads with style.
Breaking it down, Commercial Vehicles (CV) registered sales of 28,147 units, slipping 5% year-on-year. Blame it on fewer trucks hauling mangoes this summer or buses dreaming of monsoon holidays. Meanwhile, Passenger Vehicles (PV) sales stood at 42,040 units—a more noticeable 11% dip compared to the same month last year. Perhaps Indian families are waiting for that next big EV upgrade—or maybe they’re just carpooling smarter.
Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (MH&ICV) sales in the domestic market stood at 12,406 units, slightly down from 12,987 units in May 2024. When combined with international business, MH&ICV numbers actually nudged upward to 13,614 units, proving that Tata’s heavyweights are still flexing their muscles on global turf.
While the month saw a minor slowdown, the long-term drive remains firmly on track. With EV innovations buzzing in the pipeline and upcoming launches that promise to excite both fleet buyers and family drivers, Tata Motors might just be gearing up for its next overtake.
Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from Tata—never count out a veteran on a winding road.
