JLR India Hits the Accelerator: Breaks Sales Records, Leaves Competitors in Rearview Mirror

MUMBAI:
In a fiscal joyride that could make even James Bond trade in his Aston Martin, JLR India has clocked its best-ever annual performance in its 17-year journey through the Indian luxury car market. The company sold a record 6,183 units in FY25—a scorching 40% leap over the previous year—proving that Indians don’t just want luxury; they want it with muscle, style, and a Defender badge on the grille.

Wholesale volumes weren’t far behind, zooming up 39% to 6,266 units. And if Q4 FY25 were a movie, it would be titled Fast & Luxurious: Indian Drift, with retail sales of 1,793 units and wholesale figures of 1,710—both more than doubling compared to the same quarter last year.

Big, Bold, and Built for Everything (Including Traffic Jams)

Leading the charge was the ever-rugged-yet-regal Defender, posting a whopping 90% growth. Because nothing says “luxury adventure” like crawling through Ladakh one week and pulling up to a five-star valet the next. The locally manufactured Range Rover and Range Rover Sport didn’t just join the party—they arrived in style with growth rates of 72% and 42%, respectively.

This performance isn’t just a fluke on a winding road. Over the last two years, JLR India’s retail sales have more than doubled—clearly, the brand has gone from niche luxury to must-have status among India’s elite (and wannabe elite).

The Secret Sauce? A Pinch of Luxury, a Dash of Adventure, and a Whole Lot of ‘Customer Love’

Rajan Amba, Managing Director of JLR India, beamed like a freshly waxed Range Rover as he shared,

“We are incredibly proud to announce our all-time best performance in FY25. JLR India has outpaced the luxury car industry… driven by customer love, iconic design, unmatched capability and impeccable luxury.”

Translation: We gave India the SUVs it didn’t know it needed, and now everyone wants one—even your neighbor who used to swear by sedans.

More Than Just a Drive – It’s a Statement

JLR’s ‘House of Brands’ strategy has clearly struck a chord with India’s high-flyers and driveway connoisseurs. With this kind of momentum, don’t be surprised if FY26 includes flying versions—or at least limited editions in “Monsoon Mud” and “Delhi Smog Grey.”

As for now, JLR India’s journey is less about surviving the bumps and more about enjoying the ride—in full, climate-controlled, leather-wrapped, panoramic-roofed luxury.

Buckle up, FY26. JLR’s just getting started.
