Vintage 4×4 Seeks Loving Restoration: Bengaluru’s Mitsubishi Pajero Dreams of Off-Road Adventures Again”

In the bustling streets of Bengaluru, a 1990 Mk1 Mitsubishi Pajero awaits a second chance at life, longing for someone to restore it to its adventurous former glory. Priced at INR 5.95 lakh, this classic four-wheel drive, complete with a 5-speed manual transmission and a diesel heart, is on the lookout for a new owner. Potential adopters should note, however, that this vintage gem comes with its quirks: its insurance and Fc are currently not valid, adding a bit of spice to the restoration journey.

The Mitsubishi Pajero, a name synonymous with rugged reliability and off-road prowess, first made its grand entrance at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1981 and hit the market in May 1982, replacing the Mitsubishi Jeep Delivery Wagon. Initially offered as a three-door, short-wheelbase marvel with a choice between a metal or canvas top, this trailblazer was available with three different engine options, with more joining the lineup over time.

In a plot twist that expanded the Pajero family, February 1983 saw the introduction of a long-wheelbase, five-door variant. This model upped the ante with seating for seven, thanks to third-row seats that could either be folded for extra trunk space or transformed into a bed when combined with the second-row seats, making it an instant hit for family adventures and long hauls.

The saga of the first-generation Pajero took an international turn when Hyundai Precision Products licensed the platform to create the Hyundai Galloper, which roamed the roads from 1991 to 2003. Yet, it’s this particular 1990 Mk1 Mitsubishi Pajero in Bengaluru that’s currently stealing the spotlight, ready for a hero to embark on the noble quest of restoration. This diamond in the rough promises to be more than just a vehicle; it’s a ticket to the untold stories of the past and thrilling adventures that lie ahead.
