Munich, Germany – BMW Group Classic has unveiled a groundbreaking digital platform for automotive history enthusiasts. The company has published a comprehensive online catalog showcasing historical BMW models, marking a significant expansion of the BMW Group Online Archive.
Building on previous efforts that brought historic Mini and BMW Motorrad model overviews online in 2021, BMW Group Classic has now extended this initiative to include an extensive collection of 424 BMW cars. This platform serves as an invaluable resource for journalists, researchers, collectors, and fans alike.

The newly launched BMW historical model overview is available at BMW Group Classic. The catalog spans 80 years, from the BMW 3/15 hp model of 1928 to the BMW 3 Series (E46) and BMW Z4 (E85/E86) of 2008. Alongside BMW’s collection, the Mini and BMW Motorrad online overviews complete this digital archive, offering extensive insights into classic vehicle models, body variants, and engine specifications.
Each vehicle entry is enriched with detailed descriptions and high-resolution images sourced from the BMW Group Classic vehicle collection and the historic BMW media archive. In total, 614 data sets and 524 images have been processed to ensure an engaging and informative experience for users. Additionally, the platform is designed with future expansion in mind, allowing the database to accommodate new classic model entries as they emerge.
Beyond individual vehicle records, users can explore supplementary materials within the BMW Group Online Archive. Publications such as brochures, workshop manuals, and other historical documents are accessible, further deepening the research potential of this initiative. The archive’s 2024 redesign ensures ease of use and a modernized approach to digital automotive history.
Katrin Gfrörer, Head of BMW Group Archives and Historic Vehicle Collection, emphasized the significance of this initiative: “By making our complete historical model overviews available online, we meet a longstanding demand for historical product information and enhance customer satisfaction with a sophisticated digital tool. Furthermore, much of our online archive is publicly accessible, reinforcing BMW Group Classic’s commitment to digitalization and accessibility.”
