DELHI / SEOUL – In a landmark meeting underscoring India’s commitment to sustainable mobility and economic development, Hyundai Motor Group’s Executive Chair Euisun Chung and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met to discuss an array of strategic initiatives. This dialogue, held at the Prime Minister’s office in Delhi, covered Hyundai’s expanded investment in India, advancing electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, and fostering innovation within the Indian automotive market.
The discussions revolved around Hyundai’s enhanced role in India’s economic landscape, with Maharashtra highlighted as a focal point for new investments. Expressing appreciation for Hyundai’s commitment, Prime Minister Modi noted that investments like Hyundai’s would significantly benefit Maharashtra, India’s economic powerhouse, and create meaningful opportunities across the region. Responding to a post from Hyundai India on the social media platform X, he affirmed, “Happy to have met Euisun Chung a few days ago. India is indeed the ideal place to invest in… Big investments like this will greatly benefit the people of the state.”
Hyundai shared updates on the meeting, expressing its enthusiasm for strengthening ties with India. Executive Chair Chung officially invited Prime Minister Modi to the grand opening of Hyundai Motor India Limited’s (HMIL) new plant in Pune, Maharashtra, positioning the facility as a game-changer in the company’s commitment to the “Make in India” initiative. Expected to elevate Hyundai’s production capabilities, this investment aligns with India’s long-term “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision, which aims for transformative development by 2047, the 100th anniversary of India’s independence.
Highlighting Hyundai’s sustained success in India since its entry in 1996, Chung spoke of the Group’s continued commitment to innovation and local integration. “India’s rich history and culture inspire us, and we look forward to expanding our economic and cultural partnerships with India. The success of Hyundai in India reflects the strength of our partnership with the Indian government and the support of the Indian people,” Chung stated.
In addition to supporting India’s EV goals, Hyundai is set to accelerate the creation of a sustainable EV ecosystem, localizing production of critical EV components and expanding the EV charging station network across the country.
