4000+ km Eco-Journey Aims to Promote Electric Mass Mobility Across 200+ Indian Towns
Nagpur, October 12, 2024 – In a groundbreaking initiative, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, flagged off NueGo’s historic all-electric bus expedition from Nagpur, marking the beginning of an ambitious journey from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The journey is set to cover over 4,000 kilometers, making NueGo the first electric bus brand in the world to undertake this remarkable expedition.
Dubbed the “E-K2K” journey, the expedition will traverse over 200 towns and cities, highlighting the viability of electric buses for long-distance travel across diverse terrains—from the high-altitude regions of Kashmir to the southernmost tip of India. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the critical role electric buses can play in promoting sustainable mass mobility, all while showcasing India’s rich cultural landscape.
As the bus travels from 3,500 feet above sea level to the coast, it will not only champion cleaner travel but also make a tangible impact on the communities it passes through. On-ground activities such as tree plantation drives, clean-up initiatives, student workshops, and performances like safety-themed Nukkad Nataks (street plays) are planned along the way, encapsulating the ethos of “The E-Bus That Does Good.”
An Electrifying Vision for India’s Future
Speaking at the flag-off event, Nitin Gadkari lauded NueGo’s endeavor, stating, “This historic journey is a significant milestone in India’s push towards electric mass mobility. By covering 4,000+ kilometers, NueGo is demonstrating the potential of electric buses as a cleaner, more sustainable solution for mass transport. The Government of India is committed to supporting electric vehicle adoption, and this journey showcases the advancements in charging infrastructure and technology that make long-distance electric travel a reality.”
A Cultural and Environmental Expedition
NueGo’s journey, which began in Jammu on October 4, is as much about cultural exploration as it is about sustainability. The bus will travel through some of India’s most picturesque landscapes and bustling urban centers, serving as a symbol of unity and progress. Mr. Devndra Chawla, CEO and MD of GreenCell Mobility, emphasized the broader mission behind the journey, saying, “This expedition is more than just a test of endurance. It’s a symbol of India’s transition towards green mobility. By engaging with over 200 communities, we aim to inspire widespread adoption of electric buses while celebrating the diversity of our country.”
A Luxurious, Low-Impact Travel Experience
NueGo’s electric buses are designed to offer a premium travel experience with state-of-the-art safety and comfort features, all while maintaining a minimal environmental footprint. As the E-K2K bus continues its journey southward, it is expected to not only capture the imagination of the nation but also underscore the feasibility of electric buses as a sustainable alternative to traditional diesel-powered transport.
The E-K2K expedition is poised to leave a lasting impact, demonstrating that electric mobility is not only the future of transportation but also a viable option for long-distance travel in India today.
