From the Desert to the Deluge: Volvo C40 Recharge Travels India’s Extremes
Delhi, 9th September 2024: In a bold celebration of World EV Day, Volvo Car India has set off on an ambitious 3,250 km electric vehicle journey, crossing the country from its driest region, Jaisalmer, to its wettest, Mawsynram. The cross-country drive showcases the resilience and range of the Volvo C40 Recharge, aiming to dispel myths surrounding electric vehicles (EVs) and their performance on long-distance travel across varied terrain and extreme weather conditions.
The 13-day adventure began in the arid deserts of Jaisalmer, with stops planned in key cities like Jodhpur, Jaipur, Delhi, Agra, and Siliguri, before concluding in the rain-soaked hills of Mawsynram. Volvo’s route, spanning from West to East, not only tests the endurance of the C40 Recharge but also highlights its ability to handle both scorching desert heat and the relentless downpours of India’s northeast.
“This 3,250-kilometre drive through diverse climates is a testament to the robustness of the C40 Recharge,” said Mr. Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India. “It’s not just a challenge for the vehicle but also an opportunity to showcase the comfort and reliability that our EVs provide, even on journeys of this magnitude.”
Volvo’s drive underscores its commitment to dispelling the myth of “range anxiety” among Indian consumers, proving that EVs can conquer long distances and extreme weather with ease. The initiative aligns with Volvo’s broader mission of promoting sustainable mobility and community engagement.
In addition to the EV drive, Volvo is also spotlighting its environmental efforts, such as the transformation of an urban dump yard in Ghaziabad into a lush urban forest. Under the company’s “Reverse Project,” launched in June, 10,300 trees have been planted, reflecting Volvo’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and its ambitious goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2024.
With this groundbreaking drive, Volvo Car India is making a strong statement: the future of travel is electric, and the future is already here.
