Tata Curvv EV Review: The Coupe SUV That Zips, Zaps, and Zings Its Way into the Future!

So, you’ve finally saved enough money, waved goodbye to your trusty WagonR, and are ready to enter the brave new world of electric SUVs with the Tata Curvv EV. But wait, is it really a “Curvv” or is it Tata’s attempt to design a futuristic, coupe-style SUV after watching Fast & Furious one too many times? Let’s dive into the details of this avant-garde Indian Coupe SUV.

Tata Curvv EV is available exclusively in electric, with prices starting from ₹17.49 lakh ex-showroom, while the top model is priced at ₹22 lakh. The model you see here is the top variant, Empowered+ A 55. A petrol and diesel engine variant of the Curvv is expected to launch soon. Along with the Curvv EV, Tata provides a complimentary 7.2 kW AC Wall Box charger.

The vehicle comes with a warranty of 8 years or 1.60 lakh kilometers for the battery and motor, and 3 years or 1.25 lakh kilometers for the car itself. This can be extended to 6 years or 1.60 lakh kilometers for an additional ₹49,000. The Curvv EV is built on the Acti.ev platform, which is also shared by the Punch EV.

Design

When Tata said “Curvv,” they didn’t just mean a curvy car. This car looks like it’s permanently ready to dodge potholes in a Matrix-style slo-mo. Designed by Tata’s Chief of Curves, Martin Uhlarik, the Curvv isn’t just any SUV—it’s a fastback, coupe-style showstopper. Its sloping roofline is so steep, it could double as a slide for toddlers at birthday parties. It’s also got flush door handles, perfect for confusing anyone who doesn’t drive a Tesla.

And those 18-inch alloys with aero inserts? Aero inserts in India’s traffic? As if your morning drive to work is an F1 race. But hey, they look cool while standing still in bumper-to-bumper traffic, so there’s that.

The Tata Curvv EV is equipped with an Independent McPherson Strut suspension at the front with coil springs, and a twist suspension at the rear with dual path struts. It features a Liquid Cooled Thermal Management System for optimized performance. The vehicle comes with automatic LED projector headlamps, which include High Beam Assist.

In terms of dimensions, the Curvv EV measures 4.3 meters in length, 1.8 meters in width, and 1.6 meters in height, offering 186 mm of ground clearance, with the Curvv 45 variant providing 190 mm. It has a turning circle radius of 5.3 meters. The car rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with aero inserts, although 17-inch alloy and steel wheel options are also available. Both front and rear disc brakes are fitted, along with 215/55 R18 95H Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance radial tubeless tyres.

The Curvv EV is available in Virtual Sunrise Blue, with additional color options including red, white, and grey.

Performance

The Curvv EV doesn’t just “move”—it zooms silently. The Curvv EV 55 churns out a respectable 165 horsepower and does 0-100 in 8.6 seconds. In eco mode, though, it’s more like a “rickshaw meander,” sipping battery juice as if it’s on a diet. But switch to sport mode, and suddenly you’re Shatabdi Express on wheels. The only problem? If you hit that 160 kmph top speed, chances are you’ll hit Bangalore traffic by lunchtime.

Tata gives you a 585 km range, but if your daily route includes any semblance of Delhi’s Ring Road, expect that range to shrink faster than your enthusiasm after seeing traffic.

Charging

Tata knows we love taking things slow. And they’ve delivered with 21 hours for 90% charge from a 15 amp plug. That’s like binge-watching three seasons of a Netflix series while your car gets a power nap. With a 7.2 kW charger, it’s a mere 7.9 hours for the Curvv EV 55. But if you’re late for your weekend Goa trip, fear not! The 70 kW DC fast charger gets you 70% charge in just 40 minutes—perfect for a quick chai break at a highway dhaba. By the way, Tata’s thrown in a wall box charger for free. Because they know you’ll need it!

Interiors

Step inside, and you’re greeted by the 9 speakers 320 watts JBL Cinematic Sound with nine speakers. Yes, nine speakers—because seven just wouldn’t do justice to your guilty pleasure playlists. The digital dashboard and 10.25-inch Harman infotainment screen make you feel like a fighter jet pilot—minus the missiles, of course. Plus, there’s an air purifier with AQI display, because let’s face it, our AQI is about as trustworthy as a 3-day-old samosa.

The seats? Blue Leatherette Upholstery. Blue, because Tata knows you’re cool. And if blue’s not your jam, don’t worry—you can opt for red or white, like you’re choosing a car at a fashion show. Oh, and did I mention the panoramic sunroof with voice assistant? Just shout “open sunroof!” and watch the sky appear. It’s almost like you’re a Bollywood villain, plotting your next move.

Safety

Tata hasn’t compromised on safety either. This bad boy’s got Level 2 ADAS features including Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, and a bunch of other acronyms that basically mean the car’s smarter than you. If you’re falling asleep at the wheel, the Curvv EV has Driver Doze-off Alert. Because, let’s be honest, some of us need that even when we’re just parked.

The Tata Curvv EV comes with IP67 protection for both the electric motor and the battery pack, ensuring durability against water and dust. It features a connected tail lamp and has a 50:50 weight distribution between the front and rear for better balance and stability. The vehicle is equipped with i-VBAC (Intelligent Vacuum-less Boost & Active Control), which combines regenerative and normal braking for optimal pedal feel.

In terms of safety, the Curvv EV includes six airbags, an electronic stability program, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Driver Doze-off Alert, Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control, ISOFIX child seat mounting, 3-point ELR seatbelts, keyless entry, and brake disc wiping, among other features. The car also supports the iRA app, which allows smartphone access to multiple vehicle features, including health monitoring, remote commands, geo-fencing, immobilization, valet mode, alerts, driving score, charge history, service booking, live vehicle tracking, and charging locator, among many others.

Practicality

With 500 litres of boot space, you can pack more than just your dreams. Need more? Fold those rear seats and you’ve got a whopping 973 litres of space. Enough to fit your entire friend group (not that I’m encouraging that) or a week’s worth of groceries and existential dread.

Verdict

In the world of electric SUVs, the Tata Curvv EV is a strange mix of practicality, performance, and good ol’ Indian jugaad. It’s a coupe, an SUV, and a fashion statement all rolled into one. Whether you want to impress your neighbours, or silently breeze through Mumbai’s streets, the Curvv has your back. The starting price of INR 17.49 lakh isn’t exactly peanuts, but for what it offers—style, performance, and enough tech to make your smartphone jealous—it’s a steal.

So, if you’re ready for a future where your car doesn’t just drive but judges your driving habits and silently asks you to stop using your turn signals so late—then Tata Curvv EV is calling your name.

Time to “Curvv” your enthusiasm.

Aaiye Tata Curvv EV ki drive pe chalte hain—because, really, who wouldn’t want to cruise in a Coupe SUV that looks like it just stepped out of a sci-fi movie? Tata ne finally launch kar diya apna futuristic Curvv EV, and boy, does it turn heads. Whether it’s the coupe styling or the fact that it looks like a Tesla went to Mumbai for a makeover, this car screams “unique.” And when we say unique, we mean “ye toh kisi aur car jaisa bilkul nahi lagta.”

Design & Space: The Coupe That Took a Detour through Bollywood
The first thing you notice about the Curvv EV? It’s got that sloping roofline that makes it look like it’s always in a hurry, even when it’s parked. From the back, this SUV coupe is unlike anything else in India, unless you’ve seen a BMW X6 (but let’s be real, us middle-class folks can just admire that from afar). This car is spacious, technology se loaded, aur overall, it’s built as a value-for-money car. Because why settle for plain old when you can get something that looks like it was designed by aliens who visited Goa?

Hop inside and it feels like you’re sitting in a futuristic Nexon EV on steroids. Yes, you heard that right. The dashboard layout screams Nexon EV, which isn’t bad at all—it’s like Tata said, “How do we make Nexon EV fancier? Ah, let’s give it some curves and call it a day!”

Performance: Zooooom with a Side of Wheelspin
So, how does it drive? The 165 horsepower motor is nothing to laugh at. It’s Tata’s most powerful electric motor to date, and when you accelerate hard, it’s like “Shatabdi Express mode activated.” With 0-100 in 8.6 seconds, you’ll hit triple digits quicker than you can say “arre baap re.” Although, be warned—too much excitement and you’ll get a sneaky wheelspin. It’s like the car saying, “Thoda slowly yaar, abhi new hoon.”

The claimed 585 km range is impressive, but we know how that goes in real life. Realistically, expect around 400 km. But hey, that’s still plenty for your daily city commutes and weekend escapades, unless your weekend involves road-tripping across all of Maharashtra.

Drive Modes: Choose Your Adventure
Tata’s given you three drive modes: Eco, City, and Sport. City mode is for those times you need a bit of power with decent range (like when you’re running late for that meeting). Eco mode is perfect if you’re on a budget and want to stretch every last electron, and Sport mode? Well, that’s for when you want to go full “fast and furious” on the highway, while your passengers silently judge your driving enthusiasm.

Tech & Gadgets: The Stuff of Dreams (and Mild Annoyances)
This car’s packed with technology. You’ve got Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS), so the Curvv doesn’t sneak up on pedestrians like a ninja. At speeds under 20 kmph, it emits a signature sound—probably something like “yeh gaadi aa rahi hai, sambhal jao.”

The smart digital lights give you a little “hello” and “goodbye” show when you start and stop the car. It’s basically like your car saying, “Main tumse pyar karta hoon, don’t leave me.”

4-level regenerative braking makes single-pedal driving a breeze—perfect for when you’re stuck in Mumbai’s glorious traffic and want to save energy while cursing under your breath. But if you’re a long-legged passenger, that sloping coupe roofline? Uh oh. Prepare for some unintentional headbutts with the ceiling.

Handling & Ride: Fun, Until It’s Not
On straight roads and highways, the Curvv EV is rock solid. It’ll zip past traffic, and you can comfortably cruise at 100+ kmph without feeling like you’re piloting a spaceship that’s about to disintegrate. But when you take it on winding roads or sharp turns? The body roll hits you like a Bollywood plot twist. High-speed turns make the Curvv feel a bit wobbly, like it’s had too much pav bhaji. The soft suspension could’ve been firmer, especially when handling Mumbai’s notorious potholes.

The steering is responsive, though. At low speeds, it’s light as a feather, making city driving a joy. And at high speeds, it heavies up nicely, adding confidence while cruising on highways.

Interior Niggles: Where Are the Cupholders?
Tata, we need to talk. How does a car this futuristic not have front cupholders? You’re out there designing coupe SUVs, but where do we put our cutting chai? Also, because of that sexy coupe design, the rearview mirror visibility is more like peeking out of a letterbox slot. You’ll be seeing a lot of the sky and not much else.

Then there’s the glossy finish inside and out. Sure, it looks fantastic when it’s clean, but let’s be real—India + glossy surfaces = scratches galore in no time.

Fit & Finish: Work in Progress
Tata’s done a commendable job with the fit and finish overall, but there’s always room for improvement. Some early owners are already reporting issues with the LED lights, and we all know Tata cars can have some initial teething problems (looking at you, Tiago). Also, Tata’s after-sales service could use a bit of work. Streamline it, Tata!

The Final Verdict: Bold, But For the Bold
With the Tata Curvv EV, Tata has taken a bold leap into the world of coupe SUVs for the masses. It’s got the style, the tech, and the performance to impress, but it’s not perfect. The youthful, tech-savvy crowd will likely be drawn to it, while the rest of us might stick to the tried-and-true Nexon EV.

Still, Tata deserves a round of applause for introducing a coupe SUV design in the budget segment—a move that’s sure to shake up the competition. So, if you’re ready for something that’s bold, stylish, and just a little bit quirky, the Curvv EV might just be your perfect companion.
