Renault India Blazes New Trails: First Car Manufacturer to Conquer Umling La, World’s Highest Motorable Road

Historic Drive Showcases Renault’s Unmatched Vehicle Endurance Across Ladakh’s Rugged Terrains

New Delhi – Renault India has etched its name in the history books by becoming the first automobile manufacturer to take its entire product range to Umling La, the world’s highest motorable road. Covering over 1,000 kilometers of Ladakh’s unforgiving and awe-inspiring landscapes, Renault’s fleet – including the Kiger, Kwid, and Triber – demonstrated remarkable resilience and performance, proving their capability in extreme conditions.

The landmark drive kicked off on 29th August 2024 in Leh, with Renault India’s vehicles tackling the region’s iconic destinations such as Chang La pass, Pangong Tso, Hanle, and culminating at the 19,300 ft Umling La. The journey was not just a test of endurance but also a celebration of adventure, with participants enjoying some of the most breathtaking sights in the world. A special stargazing stop at Hanle, one of the best spots for night-sky views, added to the magic of the expedition.

Renault India’s Country CEO and Managing Director, Venkatram Mamillapalle, praised the groundbreaking achievement: “We are incredibly proud to be the first OEM to bring our entire lineup to Umling La, showcasing the spirit of adventure that Renault embodies. This drive is a powerful testament to the robustness and versatility of our vehicles, proving that they can conquer not just city roads but the toughest terrains on the planet.”

The journey highlighted Renault’s commitment to delivering exceptional driving experiences. The Kwid, with its 8-inch Media NAV touchscreen and a host of safety features, remains the most affordable hatchback with such offerings. The Triber continues to lead in space, technology, and value as India’s most affordable automatic 7-seater. Meanwhile, the Kiger raises the bar with its turbo engine and luxury features, offering a dynamic yet comfortable ride.

Renault’s pioneering drive through Ladakh’s rugged passes cements the brand’s reputation for building durable and adaptable vehicles. This milestone reflects the automaker’s ambition to push boundaries, positioning Renault not just as a city carmaker but as a trusted companion for any journey, no matter how challenging.
