In a surprising twist, a first-generation Chrysler 300 has surfaced in the Mumbai used car market with an asking price of INR 22 lakh. This 2008 model, equipped with a V6 diesel automatic transmission, is listed as a single-owner vehicle, registered under MH 06, with export duty reportedly paid. The seller claims the car is a “rare collectible,” but the asking price has raised eyebrows, especially given that the paperwork for the vehicle expired in 2023.
The car’s listing has sparked significant online debate, with many questioning the high price tag for a vehicle that some consider poorly maintained. One user, Vaishak Sukumaran, commented that the same car had been up for sale in Pune since 2021, where he had seen it in person. “Back then, the owner was demanding INR 15 lakhs,” he noted, adding that the car was in bad condition.
Another commenter, iksqr, referred to the Chrysler 300 as the “poor man’s Bentley” but criticized the vehicle’s interior and dashboard design, stating that even for its time, they were subpar. “Old American is no match for old Japanese or European,” they remarked.
The Chrysler 300, originally designed as a modern take on the classic 1955 Chrysler C-300, debuted in 2005 and quickly became known for its distinctive styling, including a large grille, long hood, and low roofline. While it enjoyed some popularity, especially in the North American market, its current valuation in India, particularly in the used car market, seems to be out of step with both its condition and the general market sentiment.
The high asking price in Mumbai has led many to question whether the vehicle’s “collectible” status justifies the cost, or if it’s simply another example of inflated prices in an increasingly speculative used car market.
