Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled a special edition S-Class to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Robbe & Berking, a renowned silver and yacht manufacturer. This unique vehicle is inspired by the legendary Sphinx 12mR yacht, underscoring the shared values of craftsmanship, aesthetics, and timeless elegance that unite the two heritage-rich brands.
The exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S 680 features a design echoing the Sphinx yacht, which was built in 1939 and famously known as the “night-blue beauty.” This celebrated yacht marked the beginning of Robbe & Berking Classics, a shipyard dedicated to the restoration of classic wooden yachts. The S 680 showcases a two-tone paint finish with nautical blue metallic on the upper section and Manufaktur patagonia red bright on the lower body, separated by a Manufaktur opalite white metallic pinstripe, reminiscent of the yacht’s white waterline.

The interior of the anniversary S-Class is equally luxurious, featuring Maybach Manufaktur Exclusive nappa leather in crystal white with diamond quilting. Orion grey topstitching adds an elegant contrast, while exclusive wood walnut trim with aluminum strips mirrors the aesthetic of a ship’s deck. Custom nappa leather cushions in the rear, electric comfort doors, and Manufaktur door sill trims with illuminated MAYBACH lettering enhance the opulence. The vehicle also includes the Burmester high-end 4D surround sound system, MBUX high-end rear-seat entertainment, and a cooling compartment with two silver-plated champagne goblets from Robbe & Berking.

The Sphinx yacht, belonging to the esteemed “12 Metre R class,” was built by the Abeking & Rasmussen boatyard in 1939 and has a storied history. It was the last of a series of ten 12-metre boats and later served the German Navy under the name “Ostwind.” In 2005, Oliver Berking and two friends restored the yacht according to original plans, rekindling its legacy under its original name. This passion project led to the founding of Robbe & Berking Classics in 2008, which has since become a globally sought-after specialist in restoring classic sailing yachts and building faithful replicas of lost classic boats.
