Hyundai Motor Unveils the All-Electric Inster: An Urban Sub-Compact EV with Up to 355 km Range
At the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show, Hyundai Motor Company introduced the Inster, an all-electric A-segment sub-compact SUV that promises a unique design, leading driving range, and advanced technology.
Innovative Design and Spacious Interior
The Inster boasts a bold and futuristic exterior design, coupled with a spacious interior. This small SUV offers a sophisticated technology package for safe and refined driving, featuring fast charging capabilities and a segment-leading all-electric range (AER) of up to 355 km.
Building on the design of the 2021 Korea-only petrol-powered Casper, the Inster features an extended body and wheelbase for more interior space and a robust road presence. This places it between traditional A-segment city cars and larger B-segment models, offering both maneuverability and enhanced practicality.
Distinctive Exterior Features
The Inster’s exterior is characterized by its small SUV profile, clean surfaces, and strong fenders. It features LED daytime running lights, pixel-graphic turn signals, and options for LED projection headlamps and a two-tone exterior. Customers can choose between 15-inch steel, 15-inch alloy, or 17-inch alloy wheels.
Versatile and Advanced Interior
Inside, the Inster is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation, and a wireless charging dock. The interior also includes customizable upper door trim garnishes, front-row walk-through access, and seats that fold flat for increased flexibility. Options for a front bench seat, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel are available.
Eco-Friendly Materials and Color Options
The Inster utilizes sustainable materials, including black high-gloss recycled paint and recycled PET from bottles. Exterior color options range from Atlas White to Buttercream Yellow Pearl, with some available in two-tone combinations. Interior trims include Black and two-tone Khaki Brown and Newtro Beige.
Fast Charging and Leading Range
With a standard 42 kWh battery and an optional Long-Range 49 kWh battery, the Inster delivers up to 355 km on a single charge for the Long-Range model. It supports DC charging, enabling 10 to 80 percent charging in about 30 minutes with a 120 kW charger. The Inster also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality for powering external devices.
Advanced Technology and Safety Features
The Inster is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced safety and driver assistance features, including a Surround View Monitor, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear, Blind-spot View Monitor, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5. Additional features include Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and Highway Driving Assist 1.5.
Global Launch and Future Variants
The Inster will debut in Korea this summer, followed by launches in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. An additional model, the Inster Cross4, featuring a rugged design, will join the lineup in the future.
