Rare Classic: 1985 Volkswagen Jetta on Sale in Bengaluru

In an intriguing find for automobile enthusiasts and collectors, a second-generation 1985 Volkswagen Jetta has been listed for sale in Bengaluru, marking a rare appearance of this classic model in India. Priced at INR 7 lakh, the vehicle is a testament to Volkswagen’s enduring legacy in the compact car segment.

The 1985 Jetta, located in Parimala Nagar, Bengaluru, boasts a 1.6 TDI diesel engine under its hood, showcasing the engineering prowess of Volkswagen during that era. With a journey of 2 lakh kilometers on its odometer, this vehicle has seen its share of roads and stories. Its manual transmission and the fact that it is being sold by its second owner add to the car’s allure and history.

The Volkswagen Jetta (A2), launched as the successor to the Volkswagen Jetta (A1), represents the second generation of the Jetta series. Known for its robust build and reliable performance, the Mark 2 series holds the record as the longest-running Jetta version. Making its debut in Europe in early 1984 and reaching North American shores in 1985, the Jetta quickly climbed the ranks to become a significant sales success for Volkswagen.

Not only did the Jetta secure the title of the best-selling European car in North America, but it also won accolades such as the Farmer’s Journal Car of the Year in 1991. Remarkably, it managed to outsell the Golf, a model with which it shares its platform, by a two-to-one margin in the North American market. The Jetta was appreciated for its increased size, heavier build, and the capacity to comfortably seat five people, making it a more versatile option compared to its predecessor.

This sale offers a unique opportunity for car enthusiasts in India to own a piece of automotive history. The 1985 Volkswagen Jetta stands as a rare and cherished relic of Volkswagen’s rich lineage, promising its new owner not just a vehicle, but a journey back in time.
