In a dramatic turn of events, a 31-year-old Delhi businessman found himself in handcuffs after a hit-and-run incident that tragically ended the life of a 44-year-old motorcyclist. The streets of southwest Delhi became the backdrop for this fatal mishap on NH 8 near Mahipalpur.
The victim, identified as Mohammad Tamannah, a resident of Patparganj in east Delhi, was returning from Gurugram when the calamity struck around 5 pm. Kunal Kanwar, a well-to-do resident of Greater Kailash, was allegedly behind the wheel of his Audi Q3 SUV when he collided with Tamannah’s bike and then made a hasty getaway.
In a twist worthy of a detective novel, a quick-thinking passerby noted the last four digits of Kanwar’s Audi, setting the stage for the police to unravel this hit-and-run mystery. Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Rohit Meena described the investigation as a “blind case” initially, hampered by the absence of CCTV coverage at the scene.
However, relentless police work, involving scrutinizing CCTV footage along NH 8 and cross-referencing information on similar Audi vehicles, led them to zero in on seven suspects. The breakthrough came when one vehicle’s location matched the crime scene, confirmed by ANPR cameras at the Rajokri border. The suspect? None other than Kanwar.
Upon visiting Kanwar’s residence, the police encountered a confession that sealed the deal. Kanwar was promptly arrested, and his vehicle was impounded, as confirmed by DCP Meena.
This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and the crucial role of technology in modern policing, turning what seemed like an Audi-ous escape into a swift arrest.
