January 10, 2024 – Porsche, the renowned sports car manufacturer, has announced its expansion in the global golf scene by becoming the Title Partner of the DP World Tour’s Porsche Singapore Classic. This strategic move marks a significant step in internationalizing Porsche’s engagement in professional golf, offering exclusive experiences to its customers and fans around the world.
The inclusion of Southeast Asia in Porsche’s professional golf involvement supplements its existing global initiatives like the Porsche Golf Cup and Porsche Golf Circle. The inaugural Porsche Singapore Classic is set to tee off at Laguna National Golf Resort Club from March 21 to 24, 2024.
Detlev von Platen, Executive Board Member for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, highlighted the growing passion for golf among their global clientele, particularly in Asian markets. “The Porsche Singapore Classic allows us to provide a unique brand experience in Asia, coupled with top-tier golfing,” von Platen stated. This initiative further extends Porsche’s global reach in amateur golf to a professional level in Asia.
The expansion into the Asian market, focusing on Southeast Asia, Korea, and Japan, aims to boost international visibility in the golfing world. It also serves to integrate the Porsche Golf Community’s worldwide activities with professional golf events. A key goal of this new partnership is to enhance the tournament, which initially took place last spring, and strengthen Porsche’s brand presence in the region through exceptional on-site experiences for customers and golf enthusiasts.
A highlight of the event is the hole-in-one prize, featuring the newly launched Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid in Madeira Gold Metallic. This marks the first time a Porsche sports car is offered as a prize on the DP World Tour in Asia, specifically for acing the 17th hole.
Following a nine-year hiatus, the DP World Tour returned to Singapore last season, with the Laguna National Golf Resort Club, boasting two 18-hole courses, as a prominent venue for professional tournaments. The Porsche Singapore Classic will be played on the Classic Course.
Porsche, through its Swiss subsidiary, will also return as the Official Car Partner at the 2024 Omega European Masters in Crans Montana. Talks are ongoing to continue Porsche’s participation at the European Open in Hamburg.
Keith Pelley, Chief Executive Officer of the DP World Tour, expressed delight at Porsche’s extended partnership. “Porsche’s commitment to the Porsche Singapore Classic is a testament to the strength of the DP World Tour and our global reach, aiding Porsche in expanding their business across Asia,” said Pelley.
Porsche’s involvement in golf dates back to 1988 with the Porsche Golf Cup, a cornerstone event for its customers. The company’s move to become the title sponsor of the prestigious DP World Tour’s Porsche European Open solidified its role in establishing top-tier golf events in Germany. The new title sponsorship of the Porsche Singapore Classic underscores Porsche’s commitment to advancing professional golf in the vital Asian market. The company’s presence in professional golf is further complemented by car partnerships at various US PGA Tour and DP World Tour events, including the Omega European Masters. Porsche’s community of golf enthusiasts offers exclusive golfing experiences, with professional golfer Paul Casey as a Brand Ambassador since 2020.
