Hyundai Bayon Name Revealed for India, New SUV to Join Brand’s Line-Up

Gurugram: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has officially revealed the name of its upcoming SUV for the Indian market: Hyundai Bayon. The model will become the latest addition to the company’s SUV portfolio, with further details expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Hyundai describes the Bayon as a new global SUV designed around what it calls intelligent mobility, combining technology, design and a more intuitive customer experience.

While the company has not yet disclosed specifications, powertrain options, dimensions, features or launch timing, the name announcement marks the first formal step in the Bayon’s introduction to India.

Commenting on the name reveal of the upcoming SUV, Tarun Garg, Managing Director & CEO, HMIL, said:

“With Hyundai Bayon, we are introducing more than a new SUV. Bayon represents a new mindset – one that reflects our ambition to create experiences that are intelligent, intuitive and meaningful for our customers. At Hyundai, we believe that every new product is an opportunity to push ourselves further, guided by our passion for creating mobility experiences that enrich people’s lives. With Bayon, we have once again challenged ourselves to pursue perfection in the details that matter, while staying true to our belief that technology creates its greatest value when it becomes effortless and seamlessly integrated into our customers’ everyday lives. We look forward to sharing more about Hyundai Bayon with India in the coming weeks.”

Hyundai Bayon Name Inspired by Bayonne, France

The Bayon name is inspired by Bayonne, a city in the French Basque Country known for its distinctive character and dynamic spirit.

According to Hyundai, the name reflects the company’s global design philosophy while also signalling the arrival of an SUV developed for changing customer expectations in India.

The naming convention also gives the vehicle a distinctly international identity — although buyers will understandably be more interested in what sits under the bonnet and inside the cabin than its passport credentials.

Hyundai Teases ‘Intelligence ON’ Theme

Alongside the announcement, Hyundai has released a name-reveal film built around a futuristic laboratory-inspired setting.

The film shows a series of intelligent elements coming together to form the word Bayon, representing Hyundai’s themes of design, technology and innovation. It concludes with the phrase “Intelligence ON.”

The campaign offers few clues about the vehicle itself, but clearly positions technology and intelligent features as central to the Bayon’s identity.

Key Details Still Under Wraps

Hyundai has so far stopped short of revealing where the Bayon will sit within its existing Indian SUV range or whether the India-spec model will share its mechanical package with any current Hyundai product.

Pricing, engine choices, transmission options, safety equipment, connected-car features and the vehicle’s exact market positioning also remain undisclosed.

HMIL said additional information about the SUV will be shared in the coming days.

With SUVs continuing to occupy an increasingly important position in Hyundai’s Indian portfolio, the Bayon will add another nameplate to a competitive segment where technology, comfort, safety and value are becoming just as important as traditional measures such as size and performance.

For now, Hyundai has switched the nameplate on. The specifications will have to wait.
