Gurugram: BMW India has launched the new 7 Series range in the country, expanding its flagship luxury sedan line-up with petrol and all-electric powertrains and introducing the high-performance BMW i7 M70 xDrive for Indian customers.
Prices start at ₹1.95 crore, ex-showroom, for both the BMW 740 M Sport and BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport, while the BMW i7 M70 xDrive is priced at ₹2.65 crore. Bookings are open at BMW India dealerships, with deliveries scheduled to begin in October 2026.
The launch also marks a significant manufacturing development for BMW in India. The new BMW i7 will now be locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, making India, according to the company, the only country apart from Germany to locally manufacture the electric flagship. The i7 M70, however, will continue to arrive as a completely built-up unit.
Actor Ranveer Singh unveiled the updated range at the launch event and was also announced as the Brand Voice for BMW India.

BMW 7 Series India prices
The new BMW 740 M Sport is priced at ₹1.95 crore, while the BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport carries the same ₹1.95 crore ex-showroom price.
The range-topping BMW i7 M70 xDrive is priced at ₹2.65 crore.
BMW said the prices applicable at the time of invoicing will prevail. The ex-showroom figures include GST but exclude road tax, Tax Collected at Source, RTO charges, local levies and insurance.
i7 eDrive50 claims up to 728 km WLTP range
One of the biggest mechanical changes comes underneath the electric i7.
The BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive uses a 112.5 kWh battery and develops a maximum system output of 455 hp and 660 Nm of torque. BMW claims the sedan can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 km/h.
Its WLTP driving range has increased by 125 km over the outgoing model to a claimed 728 km, which BMW describes as best-in-class.
The company says the i7 can charge from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes using a 250 kW DC fast charger, while around 235 km of claimed range can be added in 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions.
Using a 22 kW AC charger, a full 0-100% charge takes about six hours.
BMW is offering the i7 and i7 M70 with a complimentary BMW Wallbox charger and installation, supporting home charging at up to 22 kW.
BMW i7 M70 becomes the most powerful 7 Series
At the top of the electric line-up sits the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, which BMW describes as the most powerful 7 Series it has produced.
Its dual electric motors generate a combined maximum output of 680 hp. Torque stands at 1,015 Nm in Sport mode and rises to as much as 1,100 Nm when Launch Control or the Sport Boost function is activated.
The i7 M70 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in a claimed 3.8 seconds, despite being very much a full-sized luxury limousine rather than something likely to spend Sunday morning hunting lap records.
Top speed is rated at 250 km/h.
Battery improvements have also pushed the i7 M70’s WLTP range to a claimed 686 km.
Speaking at the launch, Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India, said:
“The new BMW 7 Series is more than our flagship sedan – it is our ultimate statement of modern luxury. It moves the leaders, changemakers and visionaries who are shaping tomorrow. Every detail has been crafted around one idea: those who have reached the pinnacle deserve an experience to match. The new 7 Series sets a benchmark, whether you choose to take the wheel or be driven. It is the new face of the BMW Luxury Class, while offering an early glimpse into technologies that will shape the Neue Klasse era. And with our Power of Choice philosophy, customers can choose from dynamic combustion engines to advanced electric mobility. Because true luxury is not about limiting choices – it is about expanding them. With the new 7, luxury doesn’t end with the drive; it begins there.”
Brar added:
“The new BMW i7 M70 xDrive is the most powerful 7 Series ever created – where M performance meets first-class luxury, without compromise. It brings together exhilarating electric performance and the refinement expected from the pinnacle of the BMW portfolio. This is a car for someone who wants the thrill of taking the wheel and, equally, the luxury of being driven. Few cars can make the driver’s seat and the rear seat equally desirable. The i7 M70 does. It represents our belief that sustainability and performance are not competing choices. The future of luxury can be electric, exhilarating and extraordinary – all at once.”
BMW 740 M Sport gets 400 hp six-cylinder engine
For buyers who still prefer petrol power, the BMW 740 M Sport uses a three-litre six-cylinder engine from BMW’s latest modular engine family with TwinPower Turbo technology.
It produces 400 hp and 540 Nm of torque.
BMW claims a 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.
The decision to retain both combustion and electric derivatives reflects BMW’s broader “Power of Choice” strategy, allowing the same flagship luxury segment to cater to buyers at different stages of the shift towards electrification.
New design previews BMW’s Neue Klasse era
BMW has extensively reworked the exterior of the 7 Series while retaining the imposing proportions that have defined the current-generation flagship.
The front is dominated by an illuminated BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille and BMW Crystal Headlights featuring diamond-cut glass elements produced by Swarovski.
Adaptive LED headlights, including matrix high beam, cornering lights and BMW Selective Beam non-dazzling high-beam assistance, are standard. BMW says the headlamps offer a range of up to 600 metres.
A larger, matt-finished BMW badge is positioned between newly defined bonnet character lines, while flush-mounted door handles and cleaner body surfaces are intended to give the car a more monolithic appearance.
The rear receives redesigned, slim tail lamps extending further into the body, while M Sport versions add more aggressive bumpers, high-gloss black detailing, a rear diffuser, M-specific side skirts and 20-inch alloy wheels.
M Sport brakes with Dark Blue metallic callipers are also included.
i7 M70 receives distinct M treatment
The i7 M70 goes further with its own front apron, enlarged air curtains and central air intake, along with a small lower spoiler lip.
Its illuminated kidney grille receives an M-specific graphic, while M badges appear around the Hofmeister kink and rear lamps.
The M70 also features darker grille illumination, smoke-black crystal elements in the BMW Individual crystal headlights, M exterior mirrors, gloss-black exterior detailing and an M-specific rear diffuser stretching across much of the car’s width.
A discreet Black Sapphire M rear spoiler and 21-inch M aerodynamic wheels finished in bi-colour Jet Black complete the exterior changes.
Behind those wheels sit M Sport brakes with Black high-gloss callipers.
Panoramic iDrive and passenger screen headline cabin overhaul
Inside, BMW has brought several technologies associated with its Neue Klasse-generation interface to the 7 Series.
The new BMW Panoramic iDrive system combines BMW Panoramic Vision, a 17.9-inch central display, a 3D head-up display and BMW Operating System X.
BMW Panoramic Vision projects information across the lower section of the windscreen from A-pillar to A-pillar.
Drivers can configure up to six widgets by dragging them from the central touchscreen onto the Panoramic Vision display.
The centre screen uses a 17.9-inch free-cut design with a resolution of 3,340 x 1,440 pixels.
BMW is also introducing its first passenger display in the 7 Series.
The 14.6-inch BMW Passenger Screen has a full-HD resolution of 3,162 x 1,080 pixels and can be used independently without requiring the passenger to create a BMW ID or profile.
BMW says the display automatically darkens if an interior camera detects that the driver’s attention is being diverted towards it.
31.3-inch Theatre Screen remains the rear-seat party piece
Rear passengers retain one of the 7 Series’ more theatrical features: the 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen, which folds down from the roof.
It is paired with a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System featuring Dolby Atmos.
Executive Lounge rear seating allows coordinated adjustment of the backrest, upper backrest section, seat position and seat angle, creating a reclining position with a torso angle of up to 43 degrees.
The cabin can be specified with BMW Individual Merino leather, CraftedClarity crystal-glass controls and a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof featuring more than 40 LED lights.
BMW has also revised the interior ambient lighting system, while the smartphone charging tray supports wireless charging at up to 15 watts and includes a magnetic holder.
On the i7 M70, carbon-fibre interior trim with silver threads is combined with Piano Black elements to distinguish the performance model.
Radar-based automatic doors introduced
BMW has upgraded the 7 Series’ automatic doors with a radar-based system in place of the earlier parking-sensor-based arrangement.
The company says the technology allows the doors to operate more quickly and precisely, while Soft Close functionality continues to be offered.
The 7 Series also comes equipped with Parking Assistant Professional, which supports remote parking using a smartphone, along with Reversing Assistant Professional.
Cruise Control and Attentiveness Assistant are standard.
On the BMW i7, Driving Assistant Plus adds active cruise control with Stop&Go, Steering and Lane Control Assistant and blind-spot monitoring.
Exterior colours and customisation options
The new 7 Series range will be offered in Tanzanite Blue, Carbon Black, Mineral White, Oxide Grey and Vancouver Green.
Selected exterior colours can be paired with a contrasting Black Sapphire roof.
BMW is additionally offering frozen paint finishes for the i7 M70, including Individual Frozen Deep Grey, Frozen Space Silver and Frozen Tanzanite Blue.
Dual-tone paint schemes are available as options, while BMW Individual Merino leather can be specified in Tartufo and Smoke White.
A flagship increasingly defined by technology
The 7 Series nameplate dates back to 1977 and has traditionally served as BMW’s platform for introducing technologies that later migrate through the rest of its range.
The latest update continues that role, but with a notable difference: software interfaces, passenger displays and electric range are now every bit as central to the flagship conversation as engine outputs and leather quality.
With local production of the i7 beginning in Chennai, BMW is also deepening the Indian manufacturing footprint of its most expensive electric sedan. The combination of petrol, long-range electric and high-performance electric variants gives the new 7 Series one of the broadest powertrain spreads in India’s flagship luxury-sedan segment — while ensuring that, whether the owner occupies the driver’s seat or the Executive Lounge in the back, there is no shortage of technology competing for attention.
