Gurugram: Hyundai Motor India Limited has introduced a new Bluelink Remote Immobiliser feature for select variants of the Hyundai Venue and Venue N Line, allowing owners to remotely prevent a parked vehicle from being restarted in cases of suspected theft or unauthorised access.
The feature is available on connected-car-Navigation-Cockpit, or ccNC, equipped HX10 and N10 variants of the Venue and Venue N Line, respectively. Hyundai is delivering the functionality through a Controller Over-the-Air, or C-OTA, software update, meaning eligible owners do not need to visit a workshop.
All eligible Venue and Venue N Line variants sold since November 2025 will receive the update, while from September 2026 the feature is being offered as standard on ccNC-equipped Venue HX10 and Venue N Line N10 variants.
Hyundai said the system is designed to provide both proactive and reactive protection against vehicle theft.
When a vehicle is parked, an owner can activate the immobiliser through the Hyundai Bluelink smartphone app. Once enabled, the vehicle cannot be restarted without authorisation.
In the event of suspected theft, customers can also activate the feature remotely even if it had not been switched on while parking. Once the vehicle’s engine is subsequently turned off, it cannot be restarted.
Importantly, the system will not remotely stop or switch off a vehicle while it is moving, a safeguard intended to avoid creating an additional safety risk while dealing with an already inconvenient situation.
Live Location Tracking Can Assist Vehicle Recovery
Bluelink’s live location tracking function can also assist owners and law enforcement agencies in locating the vehicle, provided it remains connected to the network.
Hyundai said the feature could be useful in cases involving unauthorised access techniques such as key cloning, which has been associated with reported vehicle theft incidents in India.
The remote immobilisation function can be activated directly through the Bluelink app without requiring the customer to contact the Bluelink Centre.
Software-Defined Vehicle Architecture Enables Remote Update
The new function has been introduced using the Software-Defined Vehicle architecture employed by the Venue and Venue N Line.
Compatible ccNC-equipped variants can receive C-OTA software updates across up to 19 vehicle controllers, allowing Hyundai to introduce software-based features, improvements and updates remotely.
In practical terms, it means some future upgrades may arrive more like a smartphone software update than a traditional workshop appointment — although cars, thankfully, are still considerably harder to misplace behind a sofa.
Explaining the rollout, Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, HMIL, said:
“With Hyundai Bluelink now powering over eight lakh connected vehicles in India, we continue to strengthen our connected mobility ecosystem by delivering meaningful innovations that address evolving customer needs. Hyundai Bluelink Remote Immobiliser offers customers greater control and peace of mind by enabling them to remotely secure their parked Hyundai Venue or Venue N Line and respond quickly in the event of suspected theft, while incorporating safeguards that prioritise customer safety. Importantly, this feature also demonstrates the future-ready potential of Hyundai’s Software-Defined-Vehicle architecture. Through a seamless Controller Over-the-Air update, we are introducing an important new capability to eligible model variants without requiring customers to visit a workshop.”
What Is a Controller Over-the-Air Update?
A Controller Over-the-Air update allows software controlling various electronic systems in a vehicle to be updated wirelessly without requiring a workshop visit.
Hyundai said its next-generation Software-Defined Vehicle architecture will allow subsequent updates across multiple vehicle controllers, potentially enabling new functions and refinements to be delivered to existing vehicles during their ownership period.
Bluelink Offered Across 11 Hyundai Models
Hyundai currently offers Bluelink connectivity on 11 of the 15 models in its Indian product portfolio.
The connected-car platform provides more than 70 functions, including emergency assistance, SOS services, automatic crash notification, remote vehicle status monitoring and home-to-car connectivity.
Other features include Hyundai Pay, Digital Key, Digital Passport and the ‘Find My Car’ function using the side-view monitor on supported models.
Hyundai also says some Bluelink-equipped vehicles support up to 492 AI-powered voice commands along with multilingual interfaces in the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system.
Rollout to Expand to More Hyundai Models
The Venue and Venue N Line are the first models in Hyundai Motor India’s mass-market portfolio to receive the Remote Immobiliser function.
The company plans to introduce the feature in phases across select existing Bluelink-equipped vehicles, while future connected Hyundai models are also expected to offer it.
Beyond its immediate anti-theft purpose, the introduction highlights a broader change in the automotive industry: vehicle capabilities are increasingly being shaped not only at the factory or workshop, but through software updates delivered long after a car has reached its owner.
