Gurugram: Used-car retail platform Spinny has expanded its partnerships with Nissan Motor India, JSW MG Motor India and Tesla, aiming to connect more parts of the vehicle ownership cycle — from selling and exchanging existing cars to buying new, used and electric vehicles.
The partnerships cover different segments of the market and include exchange benefits of up to ₹75,000 in Nissan’s programme, used-EV evaluation and certification initiatives with JSW MG Motor India, and vehicle exchange support for customers moving from internal combustion engine cars to Tesla electric vehicles.
The move reflects the growing overlap between India’s new-car, used-car and electric-vehicle markets, as automakers increasingly look beyond the showroom sale and towards what happens to a customer’s existing vehicle before the next one arrives.
Spinny currently operates across more than 80 cities, with over 57 Car Hubs, 17 Spinny Parks and more than 15 Integrated Restoration Centres.
Nissan exchange programme offers benefits of up to ₹75,000
Under its partnership with Nissan India, Spinny is supporting a 55-minute vehicle exchange programme for customers purchasing a new Nissan.
Customers can have their existing vehicle evaluated and exchanged, with benefits of up to ₹75,000. A Buying Letter issued by Spinny can also be used as proof of exchange, according to the company.
Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, said: “At Nissan Motor India, we remain committed to creating greater value for both our customers and dealer partners through innovative and customer-centric solutions. Our collaboration with Spinny as a preferred exchange partner represents a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening our vehicle exchange ecosystem, enhancing the overall customer experience and contributing meaningfully to dealership growth.”
The arrangement is intended to make the trade-in process more predictable for customers while giving Nissan dealerships an organised channel for handling vehicles being replaced.
In other words, the old car is increasingly becoming part of the new-car transaction rather than an entirely separate weekend project.
Spinny joins Tesla’s Switch and Save programme
Spinny is also a preferred exchange partner for Tesla under its Switch and Save programme.
The programme is designed for customers selling an existing internal combustion engine vehicle while moving to a new Tesla, including the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive.
Spinny’s role is focused on evaluating and purchasing the customer’s outgoing vehicle, helping integrate the resale process into the switch to an EV.
The partnership comes as electric-car manufacturers seek to reduce one of the practical hurdles for prospective EV buyers: what to do with the petrol or diesel car already sitting in the driveway.
JSW MG Motor India partnership focuses on used EVs
Spinny’s partnership with JSW MG Motor India takes a different route, concentrating on India’s emerging pre-owned electric vehicle market.
The two companies are working on EV evaluation, battery health assessment, certification, refurbishment and retail, with the aim of improving transparency around used electric cars.
The partnership covers the MG Comet EV, MG Windsor EV and MG ZS EV.
Customers purchasing certified pre-owned MG EVs through Spinny will receive battery health assessment and certification, continuity of applicable OEM warranty, and fixed pricing, alongside Spinny’s inspection and refurbishment processes.
Vehicles will be evaluated and prepared through Spinny’s Integrated Restoration Centres using EV-specific assessment and restoration procedures.
Buyers will also have access to Spinny’s 5-Day Money Back Guarantee, financing options and both online and offline purchase channels through its Car Hubs and Spinny Parks.
Battery health becomes central to used-EV valuation
Unlike a conventional used petrol or diesel vehicle, an electric car introduces another major variable into the resale equation: the condition of its battery.
As India’s EV fleet grows older, battery health, residual value, vehicle condition and long-term ownership costs are becoming increasingly important factors for used-car buyers and sellers.
Under the JSW MG Motor India partnership, customers selling an EV through Spinny will have access to specialised evaluations that include battery health assessment and certification.
Spinny said its Seller Protection Policy, nationwide buying network and technology-led evaluation process will also apply to EV sellers.
The initiative covers customers in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Coimbatore.
Vinay Raina, Chief Commercial Officer, JSW MG Motor India, said: “Our aim is to become a leading NEV brand in the country and as electric mobility continues to gain momentum in India, building a strong and trusted pre-owned ecosystem will be critical to accelerating adoption. Our partnership with Spinny enables us to extend confidence across the ownership lifecycle while making electric mobility more accessible, transparent and rewarding for customers.”
The companies also plan to use knowledge sharing to strengthen EV diagnostics, battery assessment, refurbishment and restoration capabilities across Spinny’s Integrated Restoration Centre network.
Spinny builds around complete car ownership cycle
Spinny said its broader strategy is to connect multiple stages of car ownership instead of concentrating solely on the purchase and sale of used vehicles.
Its current operations include vehicle buying, selling, exchange, evaluation, refurbishment and retail. The company is also linking these services with post-sales ownership support through GoMechanic.
Spinny’s inspection process includes a claimed 200-point inspection, while eligible pre-owned vehicles are offered with warranty coverage of up to three years.
Niraj Singh, Founder and CEO, Spinny, said: “The future of automotive is not just about selling cars, but about building a more connected ownership ecosystem. At Spinny, we believe trust will be at the heart of that evolution. Our partnerships with Nissan, JSW MG Motor India and Tesla bring together OEM expertise and reach with our capabilities across buying, selling, evaluation and restoration, all with a sharp focus on customer experience and value.
“Alongside partners, we are bringing together different parts of the automotive journey to make it simpler, more transparent and more rewarding for customers, from discovering and buying a car to selling, exchanging, upgrading and owning it.”
The partnerships underline a wider shift in India’s automotive industry, where new-car sales, used-car valuations and EV adoption are becoming increasingly interconnected. For buyers, the significance may be less about which company handles each individual step and more about whether the entire process — from disposing of the old car to understanding the condition of the next one — becomes easier to navigate, particularly as electric vehicles add new questions around battery condition and resale value.
