New Hyundai Bayon Launched at ₹9.99 Lakh: 1.5L Petrol Engine, Dual 12.3-Inch Screens and Advanced Safety Tech

Gurugram: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has launched the new Hyundai Bayon in India at a starting price of ₹9,99,900 (ex-showroom), introducing a technology-focused SUV equipped with a generative artificial intelligence voice assistant, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Manufactured in India for domestic and international markets, the Bayon will also be exported to more than 50 countries.

Positioned around Hyundai’s new “Intelligence That Moves” philosophy, the Bayon combines connected-car technology, advanced safety equipment and family-oriented practicality. Its headline attractions include an AI voice assistant developed with technologies from Perplexity and SoundHound AI, dual 12.3-inch curved displays, more than 70 connected-car features and a claimed 505 litres of luggage capacity.

The launch also marks the beginning of what Hyundai describes as its next major product cycle in India, with the company placing particular emphasis on intelligent mobility and locally manufactured vehicles for global markets.

Hyundai Bayon Introduces Generative AI Voice Assistant

One of the Bayon’s most significant additions is Hyundai Motor India’s first generative AI voice assistant, integrating intelligence from Perplexity with voice AI technology powered by SoundHound AI.

Unlike conventional voice-command systems that rely primarily on predefined instructions, the new assistant is designed to understand natural conversations and respond to questions involving travel itineraries, weather forecasts, hotels, restaurants, news and sports.

The technology is integrated into Hyundai’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), accelerated by NVIDIA, which incorporates two 12.3-inch displays within a curved panoramic arrangement.

Hyundai has equipped the Bayon with more than 70 Bluelink connected-car features, over 500 embedded voice commands and support for 10 regional and two international languages. The architecture also supports Controller Over-the-Air (C-OTA) updates for up to 19 vehicle controllers.

Other technology features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bose premium sound system and a three-year complimentary Hyundai Bluelink subscription.

The emphasis on conversational AI reflects a broader shift in automotive infotainment, where manufacturers are increasingly attempting to make digital interfaces more intuitive and less dependent on complicated touchscreen menus.

Level 2 Pro ADAS and More Than 80 Safety Features

Safety is another central element of the Bayon’s equipment package.

Built on Hyundai’s Global K Enhanced Platform, the SUV features a body structure incorporating 69% advanced multi-grade high-strength steel, including hot-stamped components, ultra-high-strength steel and advanced high-strength steel.

Hyundai says the vehicle has been engineered for five-star Indian safety standards, although the announcement does not provide an independent crash-test rating.

The Bayon offers more than 80 safety features across its equipment range, including Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS with 23 driver-assistance functions.

Among the highlighted technologies are Highway Driving Assist, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control for zones and curves, Surround View Monitor and Blind-spot View Monitor. The driver-assistance system incorporates three radars and 12 parking sensors.

More than 35 safety features are standard across all variants, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), a rollover sensor and a high-line Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Front disc brakes are provided, while rear braking equipment includes drum or disc configurations depending on the variant. Hyundai also highlights all-wheel disc brakes among the Bayon’s available safety equipment.

Together, these systems are intended to improve occupant protection, vehicle stability and driver awareness in everyday traffic and highway conditions.

1.5-Litre Petrol Engine With Manual and iVT Automatic Options

The Hyundai Bayon is powered by a naturally aspirated 1,497 cc, four-cylinder MPi petrol engine producing 84.4 kW (115 PS) at 6,300 rpm and 143.8 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm.

The engine is offered with a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT).

According to Hyundai, more than six lakh vehicles equipped with this engine have been sold in India since 2020, giving the powertrain an established presence in the company’s domestic portfolio.

The iVT version introduces Dash Boost Mode, designed to provide improved responsiveness during overtaking, alongside Sporty Drive Tech, which aims to deliver a more engaging acceleration experience.

Additional driving features include Eco, Normal and Sport modes, a steering-mounted drive-mode selector, paddle shifters and Idle Stop & Go technology.

The Bayon uses a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and a coupled torsion-beam rear axle, also supported by coil springs.

The Bayon measures 4,245 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,605 mm in height, including roof rails. Its 2,600 mm wheelbase is designed to support cabin space and passenger comfort.

At the front, H-Edge LED daytime running lights are paired with dual LED projector headlamps.

The side profile features geometric wheel arches, wraparound door cladding, bridge-type roof rails and available 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

At the rear, the Bayon receives H-Edge LED tail lamps, a roof-mounted spoiler incorporating a vertical high-mounted stop lamp and a spread-type Hyundai emblem.

Hyundai will offer the SUV in 10 exterior colour options across monotone, matte and dual-tone finishes.

Hyundai Bayon to Be Exported to More Than 50 Markets

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Tarun Garg, Managing Director & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said:

“The launch of Hyundai Bayon marks the beginning of Hyundai’s next golden product cycle in India.”

He also highlighted the company’s international manufacturing plans, stating:

“Manufactured in India, Hyundai Bayon will also be exported to more than 50 markets globally, reinforcing India’s growing role as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for Hyundai.”

The export programme reflects Hyundai’s continued use of India as a manufacturing base for vehicles intended for both domestic customers and overseas buyers.

The company has structured the Bayon’s product positioning around five pillars: Intelligence On, Safety On, Comfort On, Performance On and Style On.

Although the starting price has been announced, the supplied launch information does not provide a complete variant-wise price list or specify the availability of every feature across individual trims.

A Technology-Focused Addition to Hyundai’s India Portfolio

The Bayon arrives with a combination of familiar mechanical engineering and a more ambitious digital technology package. Its naturally aspirated petrol engine provides an established powertrain foundation, while generative AI, connected-car functions and navigation-assisted driver support introduce newer capabilities.

For prospective buyers, the important questions will extend beyond the specification sheet to include real-world fuel efficiency, ride comfort, software reliability and the availability of advanced features across variants.

At ₹9,99,900 (ex-showroom), the Hyundai Bayon demonstrates how manufacturers are bringing increasingly sophisticated connected technologies and driver-assistance systems into more accessible vehicle segments. Its success will ultimately depend on how effectively those features translate into everyday convenience, safety and long-term ownership satisfaction.
