New Delhi: Kia India said on Tuesday that its Carens family has crossed three lakh cumulative sales in the country, marking a major milestone for the automaker’s multipurpose vehicle lineup.
The Carens range now comprises models powered by petrol, diesel and electric drivetrains, reflecting Kia’s effort to address a wider range of family-mobility requirements. According to the company, petrol variants account for 60% of cumulative sales, while diesel models contribute 30% and electric variants make up the remaining 10%.
The milestone covers the broader Carens family, which has expanded from the original Kia Carens to include the more premium Carens Clavis and the all-electric Carens Clavis EV.
Kia said the expansion was guided by changing customer expectations around safety, technology, connectivity, comfort and design. In other words, Indian families increasingly expect their people-movers to do considerably more than merely move people.
“The 300,000-unit milestone for the Carens underscores its position as a segment leader and a true gamechanger in the MPV space. This achievement is a direct result of our product-led strategy, our sharp understanding of customer needs, and our unwavering focus on quality. It strengthens our conviction that the Carens is the benchmark for its class, and we are energized to build on this momentum as we accelerate our growth journey,” said Mr. Sunhack Park, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India.
Carens Clavis EV Offers Up to 490 km Range
The Carens Clavis EV represents Kia’s attempt to bring electric mobility to buyers seeking the space and seating flexibility of a family vehicle.
It is available with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery packs. Kia claims a driving range of 404 km for the smaller battery and up to 490 km for the larger unit.
The electric model is offered with 99 kW and 126 kW motors, both producing 255 Nm of torque. Its battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 39 minutes using a compatible fast charger, according to the company.
Kia offers the Carens Clavis EV in both six- and seven-seat configurations, positioning it for urban commutes as well as longer family journeys.
Buyers Show Growing Preference for Higher Trims
Across the Carens range, six- and seven-seat configurations continue to attract buyers looking for greater flexibility for passengers and luggage.
Kia said top-end trims contribute 18% of Carens sales, indicating that a notable section of customers is willing to pay more for advanced safety equipment, connected-car features and premium comfort technologies.
The company has also introduced regular feature upgrades across the lineup as it seeks to keep the Carens competitive in India’s crowded family-vehicle market.
The original Carens established the foundation for the expanded product family, while the Carens Clavis added a more premium design and equipment package. The Clavis EV subsequently extended the nameplate into the electric vehicle segment without abandoning the space and versatility central to the model’s appeal.
Kia Expands Network Across India
Kia India currently operates in 407 cities through a network of 892 customer touchpoints. The company said the expanding network is intended to improve access to its products and provide a more convenient ownership experience.
The three-lakh milestone highlights the continuing demand for vehicles that combine SUV-inspired styling, multiple seating arrangements and MPV practicality. More importantly, the Carens family’s move from conventional engines to a three-powertrain portfolio illustrates how automakers are beginning to introduce electric vehicles without asking large families to compromise on space—a consideration likely to become increasingly important as India’s passenger-vehicle market evolves.
