Mercedes-Benz Adds Dark Glamour to India’s Luxury SUV Market with GLE & GLS Night Editions

Pune: Mercedes-Benz India has decided that black is not just a colour anymore — it’s now a full-blown luxury statement on wheels. The German luxury carmaker has introduced the exclusive GLE and GLS ‘Night Edition’ SUVs in India, bringing darker styling, bespoke interiors and a healthy dose of road presence to its two best-selling luxury SUVs.

And yes, if regular GLS owners already struggled to find parking space in malls, the Night Edition might now struggle to find enough attention to satisfy itself.

Mercedes-Benz says India has emerged as one of the brand’s top global markets for both the GLE and GLS, underlining the country’s growing appetite for large luxury SUVs that can tackle everything from urban traffic to wedding processions with equal confidence.

The limited-series ‘Night Edition’ models arrive with blacked-out exterior styling, exclusive interior appointments and curated specifications not offered on standard variants. Buyers can choose between two colours — Obsidian Black and the newly introduced Alpine Grey, a shade exclusive to the Night Edition range and unavailable on standard GLE and GLS models.

Inside the cabin, Mercedes-Benz has added black Nappa leather upholstery along with Anthracite open-pore oak wood trim, giving the SUVs a more sophisticated and sportier ambience. Both models now also feature a Head-Up Display as standard equipment, ensuring drivers can keep their eyes on the road while occasionally admiring how expensive their bonnet looks.

The GLE Night Edition receives an additional upgrade in the form of AIRMATIC suspension, bringing enhanced ride comfort and a more refined driving experience over the standard model.

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said the company’s focus on product innovation and exclusive editions continues to elevate the desirability of the brand in India.

He noted that the GLE and GLS are undisputed leaders in the luxury SUV segment and that the new Night Edition has been designed for customers seeking greater exclusivity and personalisation in their vehicles.

The GLE Night Edition builds on the popularity of Mercedes-Benz’s core luxury SUV by introducing a more aggressive visual treatment inspired by sporty aesthetics. Combined with the new Alpine Grey paint and black detailing, the SUV adopts a sharper and more contemporary personality.

Meanwhile, the GLS Night Edition takes the same philosophy and stretches it across Mercedes-Benz’s flagship luxury SUV. The larger dimensions of the GLS amplify the blacked-out treatment, giving it an even more imposing appearance on the road. The upgraded cabin materials and exclusive finishes further enhance the SUV’s premium appeal.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the Night Editions are part of an exclusive global limited series and will be offered in restricted numbers in India, adding to their collector appeal.

Prices for the Night Edition range are as follows:

  • GLE 300d Night Edition – ₹1.05 crore (ex-showroom)
  • GLE 450 Night Edition – ₹1.14 crore (ex-showroom)
  • GLS 450 Night Edition – ₹1.41 crore (ex-showroom)
  • GLS 450d Night Edition – ₹1.43 crore (ex-showroom)

With luxury SUV buyers increasingly demanding individuality and bespoke styling, Mercedes-Benz appears determined to prove that sometimes, the best way to stand out… is to black everything out.
