Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.) seems to have started 2026 in the fast lane, as its Trucks & Buses business reported total sales of 3,065 vehicles in January, marking a healthy 40% year-on-year growth.
In a market where heavy-duty vehicles usually prefer steady cruising over sudden acceleration, Mahindra has clearly pressed the accelerator. The performance includes combined sales from Mahindra Trucks & Buses Division (MTBD) and SML Mahindra Limited (SML), both of which operate in the Commercial Vehicle (CV) segment above 3.5 tonnes.
The strong numbers underline Mahindra’s growing footprint in India’s competitive CV space, which has traditionally been dominated by a few legacy players. With infrastructure projects mushrooming across highways, cities, and industrial corridors, trucks and buses are once again in demand — and Mahindra is making sure it has a seat on every construction site and logistics route.
Commenting on the performance, Vinod Sahay, Executive Chairman – SML and President – Aerospace, Defence, Trucks, Buses & Construction Equipment at Mahindra & Mahindra, said:
“Demand trends across the Indian CV industry have remained healthy, with supportive factors such as infrastructure spending, replacement demand, and strong rural activity driving growth since last quarter. The overall trajectory for FY26 appears robust, underpinned by continued government investments, fleet modernization, and resilient freight movement.”
In simpler terms: roads are being built, old trucks are being retired, villages are buying more, and goods are moving faster — a perfect recipe for CV manufacturers to smile wider than a truck’s grille.
With government capex still going strong and logistics becoming the backbone of India’s economic engine, Mahindra’s Trucks & Buses business seems well-positioned to keep climbing gears through FY26. And if January is any indication, Mahindra’s heavy vehicles are not just carrying loads — they’re carrying momentum too.
