Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) today reported a healthy set of numbers for November: a total of 92,670 vehicles sold (including exports), representing a 19% year-on-year growth. In the spotlight was their SUV lineup — the company recorded 56,336 domestic SUV sales, up 22% YoY, with 57,598 SUVs overall (domestic + exports).
🚗 What’s driving the momentum
- In the Utility Vehicles (UV) segment, domestic sales hit 56,336 units, a sharp increase of 22%. Adding exports to the mix brings the total SUV tally to 57,598 for November.
- On the commercial-vehicle front, domestic sales stood at 24,843 units, rising by 17% compared with the same month last year.
The upbeat numbers come on the back of robust demand for SUVs across India — a trend that continues to favour larger, premium-feeling vehicles, especially in semi-urban and urban markets. The broader auto-industry tailwinds (boosted by reforms such as GST rationalisation, improved consumer sentiment and growing preference for versatile SUVs) have also helped lift M&M’s performance.
What M&M says — with a dash of marketing flair
Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of the Automotive Division at M&M, chimed in:
“In November, we achieved SUV sales of 56,336 units, a growth of 22%. The total vehicle sales stand at 92,670 units, a 19% year-on-year growth. We also celebrated the one-year anniversary of our Electric Origin SUVs and launched India’s first authentic Electric Origin 7-seater SUV — the XEV 9S — along with the world’s first Formula E–themed special edition SUV, the Mahindra BE 6 Formula E Edition.”
In short — yes, Mahindra is still bullish on SUVs. And it’s not just about petrol and diesel anymore: the rising EV push with models like XEV 9S and BE 6 adds a futuristic spin to their growth story.
Context: A strong run in 2025
November’s performance follows a record-setting October when M&M sold 120,142 vehicles, with domestic UV sales crossing 71,624 units — the highest monthly SUV-sales tally in the company’s history.
The broader auto-sector seems to be riding the same wave: rising demand for SUVs, improved affordability post-GST rationalisation, and shifting customer preferences away from smaller cars.
What to watch out for
- As sales of EV-based SUVs pick up (with models such as XEV 9S and BE 6), M&M’s ability to scale charging infrastructure and after-sales support across India will be critical.
- Competition from rivals ramping up their SUV and EV offerings.
- Macro-economic variables such as fuel prices, interest rates and consumer sentiment — any wobble there may test sustained demand.
In short: November was a good month for M&M — SUVs are still their bread and butter, and now with a slice of electric pie. If the EV push plays out well, they might just be cooking up something more substantial than just monthly sales spikes.
