MG Windsor Electrifies India: Leh–Kanyakumari Run Completed in 83 Hours, Sets Dual Record

Gurugram: In a feat that most petrolheads would still be planning on Google Maps, JSW MG Motor India has announced a record-shattering achievement — the MG Windsor has completed a staggering 3,757-km journey from Leh to Kanyakumari in just 83 hours and 43 minutes. The all-electric Windsor has officially entered the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records as the first EV in India to cover this extreme route in the fastest time recorded.

The expedition was undertaken by Mountain Goat, a group of motorsport enthusiasts who clearly didn’t believe in comfort zones. Starting in Ladakh’s oxygen-starved altitude, the windsor glided through rugged mountain passes, blistering plains, and tropical humidity — a road trip storyline that would give even Bollywood writers a minor headache. Yet, the Windsor handled it with poise, hinting that EVs can be both responsible and adventurous, much like someone who eats salad after bingeing biryani.

Despite skeptics claiming “EVs can’t do long hauls,” the Windsor needed only 20 charging stops to complete its journey. Thanks to the e-Hub by MG app, charging points were easier to find than chai joints on the national highway. With access to over 13,000+ EV charging stations via partnerships with 36 charge-point operators, the journey proved that India’s fast-charging ecosystem is evolving faster than traffic jams in peak office hours.

“Completing a diverse expedition from Leh to Kanyakumari using an EV in record time is a bold testament to India’s growing confidence in electric mobility,” said Vinay Raina, Chief Commercial Officer, JSW MG Motor India. “MG Windsor’s reliability across extreme terrains highlights the future of transportation—clean, efficient, and accessible. We’re proud to play a leading role in this transformation.”

Sanjay Bhola, Adjudicator for Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records, added,

“Heartiest congratulations to the entire team for this remarkable accomplishment and for setting a prestigious record with both India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records.”

At the heart of this electric marathon is the Windsor’s 52.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, capable of delivering up to 449 km of certified range per charge. Coupled with fast-charging compatibility, the Windsor treated every pit stop as a power snack rather than a nap break. MG claims this journey echoes its ‘EV Sahi Hai’ mission — a gentle reminder to the nation that electric is not just future-ready… it’s already cruising past diesel toll booths.

Beyond its range and records, the Windsor has quietly been rewriting the EV playbook. Since launch in September 2024, it has become India’s best-selling EV, recently crossing the 50,000-unit milestone, the fastest ever by any EV in the country. Its futuristic ‘AeroGlide’ design, plush Aero Lounge seats reclinable up to 135°, and commanding 15.6” GRANDVIEW Touch Display have essentially brought business-class travel down to asphalt level.

Not stopping at milestones, MG expanded its portfolio in May 2025 with the Windsor Pro, offering an extended battery pack. The brand later went full celebratory mode with the MG Windsor Inspire Anniversary Edition, unveiled by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India — because when you’ve just unified Himalayas and Oceans, you deserve a little birthday party.

From icy winds to salt-sprayed coasts, the MG Windsor has not just driven across India — it’s driven through India, one charging station at a time — proving that EVs aren’t the future. They’re already overtaking it.
