Gurugram – Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has just put sport and spirit into top gear, announcing a landmark partnership with the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) to host the IndianOil World Para Athletics Championships 2025. For the first time in history, India will wave the starter’s flag for this global sporting spectacle, scheduled from September 25 to October 5 at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
If cricket is India’s religion, athletics is now getting its temple bells ringing—with over 1,000 para-athletes from 100+ nations battling across 186 medal events. Expect sprints, throws, jumps, and records flying faster than Delhi’s Metro during rush hour.
A ‘Samarth’ Partnership
This initiative comes under Hyundai’s Samarth by Hyundai programme, which champions inclusivity. Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL, said:
“We are honoured to partner with PCI. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of para-athletes. And unlike your parking sensors, our support is designed never to beep when things get tough.”
PCI President and three-time Paralympic medallist Devendra Jhajharia added:
“This partnership means more than medals—it’s about dignity, awareness, and opportunities. With Hyundai’s Samarth backing, our athletes get not just mobility solutions, but also the momentum to sprint into global limelight.”
More Than a Partnership, A Movement
Hyundai isn’t just a sponsor—it’s practically the pit crew for para-sport. Its Samarth Para-Sports Programme already supports 26 athletes, seven of whom qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympics, bringing home two medals. Collectively, Samarth-backed athletes have racked up 60+ international and 40 national medals. And at the 2025 Championships, five athletes from India’s 73-member squad carry Samarth’s stamp of encouragement.
Why This Matters
This championship isn’t just about records on the track—it’s about rewriting social records. India’s debut as host showcases its infrastructure muscle, organisational grit, and most importantly, its commitment to inclusion. For young para-athletes, the message is clear: dreams have no speed limits.
As Delhi readies to welcome the world’s finest, Hyundai’s engines of inclusion are revving high. The IndianOil World Para Athletics Championships 2025 is more than sport—it’s a milestone that will put India on the global athletics map, one determined stride at a time.
