MG Motor India Accelerates Green Energy Drive with Cutting-Edge Battery Storage Initiative Under ‘Project Revive’

Gurugram – In a landmark step toward sustainable energy solutions, JSW MG Motor India, in collaboration with LICO Materials, a division of the Epsilon Group, has unveiled its latest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) under ‘Project Revive’. By repurposing MG ZS EV batteries, this initiative underscores the company’s commitment to a circular EV economy and reinforces its push toward cleaner energy alternatives.

A Sustainable Energy Revolution: The Birth of Advanced BESS

The newly introduced BESS boasts a fourfold longer lifespan than traditional solutions, along with an impressive reduction in operational costs by up to 60%. The project is a direct result of JSW MG Motor India’s continuous innovation in second-life battery applications, marking its fourth and most advanced deployment to date under ‘Project Revive’.

This latest initiative highlights the transformative potential of BESS technology in ensuring grid stability, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, and optimizing renewable energy integration. By breathing new life into used EV batteries, JSW MG Motor India takes another definitive step toward fostering a cleaner and more energy-efficient future for India.

Strategic Partnership with LICO Materials: Pioneering Sustainability

LICO Materials, a key player in lithium-ion battery recycling and refurbishment, has been instrumental in developing three versatile models of BESS solutions. These systems seamlessly integrate advanced technology with a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility, catering to diverse energy storage requirements across residential, commercial, and industrial domains.

The models are designed with three distinct energy storage capacities:

  • 18kWh – Ideal for residential applications
  • 100kWh – Suitable for commercial and mid-scale industrial use
  • 300kWh – Designed for large-scale industrial energy needs

Each of these models incorporates cutting-edge safety mechanisms, including immersion oil cooling and heating, multi-layered protection features, and intelligent thermal management systems. Additionally, the systems are engineered to function efficiently across extreme temperatures (-20°C to 60°C) and come with a warranty exceeding five years, ensuring long-term reliability and sustainability.

Voices from the Industry: Commitment to Circularity in EV Batteries

Neha Jain, Head of EV and Innovation Ecosystem at JSW MG Motor India, emphasized the project’s significance: “Project Revive is a pivotal initiative in our journey toward a more sustainable EV ecosystem. By giving our EV batteries a second life, we actively contribute to the circular economy. Our partnership with LICO Materials is a testament to this commitment, merging technological innovation with environmental responsibility. Deploying these initiatives reinforces our vision of a greener and more sustainable future.”

Echoing this sentiment, Vikram Handa, Managing Director of Epsilon Carbon, remarked: “At Epsilon Group, we view innovation as a key driver of sustainability. Our collaboration with JSW MG Motor India on ‘Project Revive’ and the integration of LICO’s LiGRID system exemplify how energy storage solutions can revolutionize the way we consume and store power. This project isn’t just about advancing technology—it’s about reshaping the future of energy management.”

Adding to the enthusiasm, Gaurav Dolwani, Founder & CEO of LICO Materials, stated: “At LICO, we are committed to fostering a greener circular economy in the energy sector. Our LiGRID series redefines the utility of end-of-life batteries, reducing waste and enhancing sustainable energy practices. Through innovative BESS technology, we are tackling critical sustainability challenges while improving grid resilience.”

Building on a Legacy of Sustainability: Previous ‘Project Revive’ Initiatives

JSW MG Motor India has previously spearheaded multiple pioneering efforts under ‘Project Revive’, each aimed at minimizing environmental impact and maximizing energy efficiency:

  • February 2024 – Partnered with Vision Mechatronics to deploy India’s first high-voltage UPS for industrial applications.
  • February 2024 – Collaborated with BATX and IIT Delhi to establish a fully off-grid charging station.
  • August 2024 – Partnered with Lohum and TERI to deploy a 5kWh BESS unit, providing sustainable energy solutions to a school in Nainital.

These initiatives reinforce JSW MG Motor India’s unwavering commitment to shaping a sustainable mobility ecosystem while making significant contributions to India’s broader energy transformation.

Future Prospects: Leading the Charge Toward a Greener Tomorrow

With the unveiling of its latest BESS initiative, JSW MG Motor India is setting a new benchmark in sustainable energy solutions. By leveraging cutting-edge battery repurposing technologies, the company is not only reducing waste but also paving the way for a more resilient and environmentally conscious power infrastructure.

As India moves toward an ambitious clean energy future, the innovations driven by ‘Project Revive’ will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping a more efficient and sustainable energy landscape. Through strategic partnerships and forward-thinking initiatives, JSW MG Motor India remains steadfast in its mission to drive transformative change in the EV and renewable energy sectors.
