BMW’s new entry-level racer, the M2 Racing, was put to the test in two high-profile debuts, giving fans a preview of what’s in store for 2026.
Hockenheim/Nürburgring – This weekend, BMW M Motorsport’s latest entry-level racing car, the BMW M2 Racing, wowed fans in its inaugural appearances both at the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) and in the DTM paddock at Hockenheim. In a weekend double-header, the M2 Racing was first unveiled in its fresh design to fans in Hockenheim, then roared to life on the Nürburgring’s infamous Nordschleife for a four-hour endurance test.
The BMW M2 Racing, a reimagined version of the BMW M2 production model, is tailored to meet entry-level racing specifications. It combines affordability with cutting-edge technology, aiming to deliver competitive performance while keeping costs manageable for upcoming racers. While full technical specs remain under wraps until next year, fans caught a peek at a unique design, featuring hidden “Easter Eggs” that nod to iconic racetracks worldwide.
“With this unveiling, the M2 Racing project accelerates into a new phase,” said Björn Lellmann, BMW M Motorsport’s Head of Customer Racing. “Our mission is clear: deliver an affordable, reliable, and high-tech car by 2026. After this weekend’s successful kickoff, we’re confident we’re on the right track.”
Piloted by seasoned drivers Max Hesse and Jens Klingmann under the FK Performance Motorsport Team, the M2 Racing took on its first endurance challenge at Nürburgring, covering 27 laps on the Nordschleife’s winding circuit without any technical hitches. Testing conditions proved perfect, as drivers encountered both dry and wet weather, which allowed them to gather valuable data on the car’s drivability.
Max Hesse reflected on the experience: “Our debut on the Nürburgring was a thrill. The M2 Racing handled beautifully, especially on the Nordschleife. We’ve definitely piqued interest in the paddock, and we’re ready to fine-tune our setup over the coming months.”
BMW M Motorsport plans to further test the M2 Racing throughout the 2025 season, refining its performance to deliver a race-ready car by 2026. With a debut weekend that showcased both style and substance, the BMW M2 Racing promises an exciting entry to the future of motorsport.
