In a major push to elevate infrastructure across Northeast India, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, convened a strategic review in Delhi to monitor the advancement of pivotal National Highway projects in Assam, Sikkim, and Mizoram. The high-level meeting saw participation from Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Union MoS (RTH) Ajay Tamta, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sikkim’s Roads and Bridges Minister Nar Bahadur Dahal, Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Duhoma, and senior officials.

During the review, Gadkari spotlighted Assam’s infrastructure with 57 ongoing highway projects covering over 1,000 kilometers, emphasizing rapid implementation, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness to uplift the region’s connectivity. This development is envisioned to bolster Assam’s economic landscape, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to a progressive and connected India.

The agenda further focused on Sikkim, where Gadkari reviewed 21 projects spanning 309 kilometers, stressing the need for sustainable practices to fortify the state’s transportation network. Enhanced roadways are poised to catalyze Sikkim’s economic growth, embodying the government’s commitment to inclusive regional development.

In Mizoram, 24 projects covering 572 kilometers received similar attention. The accelerated pace of these projects is set to strengthen internal connectivity and drive economic resurgence in the state.

These initiatives, central to the government’s vision, promise enduring benefits, improved regional mobility, and sustainable economic growth for Northeast India.
