Audi and bp Forge Pioneering Partnership for 2026 Formula 1 Debut

Audi and bp Unite for Future of Formula 1 Racing

Audi and bp have announced an innovative strategic partnership as Audi gears up for its highly anticipated entry into Formula 1 in 2026. This collaboration not only marks a significant milestone in both companies’ motorsport journeys but also aligns with the introduction of new FIA F1 Technical Regulations focused on enhanced electrification and advanced sustainable fuels.

Cutting-Edge Fuel and Lubricants Development

Under this partnership, bp and its renowned lubricants division, Castrol, will play a pivotal role in Audi’s Formula 1 endeavors. Over the past two years, Audi and bp have been co-developing advanced bp fuels and Castrol lubricants designed to maximize the performance of Audi’s F1 Power Unit. This effort includes the creation of an FIA-defined Advanced Sustainable fuel, which mandates a minimum 65% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional fossil fuels.

Comprehensive Sponsorship and Marketing Collaboration

In addition to technical cooperation, bp will also become the first official partner of Audi’s future Formula 1 factory team. This long-term sponsorship agreement encompasses marketing and branding rights for bp, Castrol, and Aral brands, further solidifying the alliance between the two industry giants.

Legacy of Motorsport Excellence

The partnership between Audi and bp builds on a legacy of successful collaboration in various motorsport arenas. Since the 1980s, Castrol products have been instrumental in Audi’s victories across multiple championships, including the World Rally Championship, FIA World Endurance Championship, and the DTM race series.

Leadership Perspectives

Andreas Seidl, CEO of the Audi F1 team, expressed his enthusiasm: “Audi and bp have a proven track record of success in motorsport. This partnership is a perfect match, combining our commitment to technological excellence. Establishing this partnership early on is a strong signal for our future F1 factory team.”

Nicola Buck, SVP of Marketing at bp, echoed this sentiment: “Partnering with Audi for their Formula 1 entry allows our premium brands to showcase technical expertise at the pinnacle of motorsport. We are making significant progress with the Audi F1 Project, developing fuels and lubricants that will optimize engine performance.”

Adam Baker, CEO of Audi Formula Racing GmbH, highlighted the partnership’s strategic importance: “In the competitive landscape of sustainable fuels in Formula 1, starting our fuel testing early with bp as our partner was crucial. Our collaborative development efforts have produced impressive fuel variants, positioning us strongly for the 2026 race season.”

As Audi and bp continue to innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible in motorsport, this partnership is set to redefine performance and sustainability in Formula 1.
