Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Launched at ₹9.99 Lakh With Turbocharged CNG Engine and 270-Litre Boot

Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has launched the XUV 3XO ZNG in India, marking its entry into the mainstream CNG passenger vehicle market. Priced from ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the compact SUV combines a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine with factory-fitted CNG technology, delivering a claimed 200 Nm of torque and certified fuel efficiency of 24.7 km/kg. Bookings and deliveries will begin on October 20, 2026.

The XUV 3XO ZNG is aimed at buyers seeking the lower running costs of compressed natural gas without giving up the performance, equipment and practicality associated with a conventional petrol-powered SUV.

Unlike many CNG vehicles that produce less power when running on gas, Mahindra says the XUV 3XO ZNG delivers identical power and torque figures in both petrol and CNG modes. The company also claims the highest torque output among CNG passenger vehicles currently available in India.

Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Price and Variants

The new SUV is available in four variants, with ex-showroom prices ranging from ₹9.99 lakh to ₹12.27 lakh.

VariantEx-showroom price
MX Edge ZNG₹9.99 lakh
REVX Edge (O) ZNG₹10.79 lakh
AX5 ZNG₹11.19 lakh
REVX A ZNG₹12.27 lakh

Test drives commenced on October 15, while bookings will open on October 20 through authorised Mahindra dealerships and the company’s official website, auto.mahindra.com. Customer deliveries are also scheduled to begin on October 20.

Turbocharged Engine Delivers 200 Nm in Both CNG and Petrol Modes

At the heart of the XUV 3XO ZNG is Mahindra’s 1.2-litre mStallion TCMPFi turbocharged engine, producing 82 kW of power and 200 Nm of peak torque in both fuel modes.

According to Mahindra, the identical output has been achieved through optimised turbocharger calibration and electronic control unit (ECU) mapping. Peak torque is available between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm, a range intended to provide responsive performance during city driving and highway overtaking.

The company claims the SUV accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in 11.8 seconds while operating on CNG.

Another technical highlight is a 10-bar CNG injection pressure system, which Mahindra describes as a segment-first feature designed to improve engine responsiveness and efficiency.

These figures suggest that Mahindra wants to challenge the traditional perception of CNG vehicles as economical but relatively unenthusiastic performers. Whether the claimed performance translates into everyday driving advantages will become clearer through independent testing.

Certified Mileage of 24.7 km/kg

The XUV 3XO ZNG delivers a certified fuel efficiency figure of 24.7 km/kg, according to Mahindra.

The dual-fuel system allows drivers to switch between CNG and petrol, while an automatic changeover function switches the engine to petrol operation when the CNG supply runs low.

The vehicle also features average and instantaneous fuel economy displays, helping drivers monitor consumption.

An NGV fast-filling valve is designed to reduce refuelling time, adding convenience for customers who regularly use CNG stations.

The combination of a turbocharged engine and certified fuel efficiency positions the XUV 3XO ZNG as an alternative for buyers who want to manage fuel expenses without moving to diesel or electric power.

Twin-Cylinder CNG System Preserves 270 Litres of Boot Space

Boot space has traditionally been a compromise in CNG-powered passenger vehicles, particularly when a large cylinder occupies much of the luggage compartment.

Mahindra has addressed this issue by incorporating a twin-cylinder CNG arrangement beneath the luggage area.

The packaging provides a flat loading floor and preserves 270 litres of usable luggage capacity. The spare wheel remains mounted underneath the vehicle rather than occupying space inside the boot.

The arrangement is intended to make the SUV more practical for family use, particularly when carrying luggage on longer journeys.

Features Include Twin Screens, Skyroof and Dolby Atmos Audio

Mahindra has retained several of the equipment options associated with the regular XUV 3XO.

Even the entry-level XUV 3XO ZNG offers a 26.03 cm HD touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, rear AC vents and a 60:40 split-folding rear seat.

Depending on the variant, additional equipment includes twin 26.03 cm displays, a Skyroof™, Dolby Atmos audio, black leatherette upholstery, a dual-tone roof and 16-inch painted black alloy wheels.

Exterior styling elements include a body-coloured or gunmetal grey grille, maintaining the appearance of the conventional XUV 3XO while distinguishing the CNG offering through its variant-specific details.

The emphasis on equipment reflects Mahindra’s attempt to appeal to customers who consider CNG a fuel choice rather than a reason to accept fewer features.

Six Airbags Standard, With Dedicated CNG Safety Features

Safety equipment is another major component of the XUV 3XO ZNG package.

All variants come equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points as standard.

The SUV also incorporates an integrated gas-leak detection system that can identify a CNG leak and automatically switch the engine to petrol operation.

Mahindra says the XUV 3XO ZNG has been engineered for five-star safety performance.

The existing XUV 3XO has already secured five-star Bharat NCAP ratings for both Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection. However, those ratings should not be interpreted as confirmation of a separate crash-test result for the newly launched CNG variant.

Mahindra Targets Buyers Seeking Performance and Lower Running Costs

Commenting on the launch, Dr Velusamy R, President, Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said:

“Customers today want the space, technology, safety and driving experience of an SUV, along with the lower running costs of CNG.”

He said the XUV 3XO ZNG had been developed to combine the practicality of CNG with the performance and equipment expected from an SUV.

Mahindra is positioning the vehicle particularly towards first-time SUV buyers and customers looking to upgrade to a compact SUV while keeping running expenses under control.

The XUV 3XO range has recorded cumulative sales of more than 2.5 lakh units in less than two-and-a-half years, according to the company.

The introduction of the ZNG extends the nameplate’s powertrain portfolio, which already includes petrol, diesel and electric options.

A New Contender in India’s CNG SUV Market

With the XUV 3XO ZNG, Mahindra enters a competitive market that includes established CNG models such as the Tata Nexon i-CNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG.

Its key differentiators are the claimed 200 Nm torque output, identical performance figures in both fuel modes and a twin-cylinder arrangement designed to preserve luggage space.

For buyers, the addition of another factory-fitted CNG SUV broadens the choice beyond conventional considerations of mileage and purchase price.

The larger significance of the XUV 3XO ZNG lies in its attempt to make CNG compatible with the performance, safety and convenience expectations of modern SUV customers. Its long-term success will depend not just on impressive specifications, but also on how effectively it delivers those benefits in real-world driving and ownership.
