Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has launched the Thar OG, the latest iteration of its three-door lifestyle SUV, at an introductory starting price of ₹10.32 lakh, ex-showroom. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026.
The Thar OG succeeds the three-door Thar introduced in 2020 and brings substantial mechanical, technology, safety and design upgrades while retaining the familiar boxy silhouette that has become central to the model’s identity.
Among the biggest changes is Mahindra’s new M_Glyde 4G platform, which the company says offers greater stiffness, along with Rear Pentalink suspension with Watts Link, DaVinci Damping technology, Electric Power Steering and enhanced noise, vibration and harshness insulation.
For buyers interested in venturing beyond the tarmac, the Thar OG also gains an Electronic Locking Differential and dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes.
More Powerful Petrol and Diesel Engines
Mahindra has upgraded two of the Thar’s existing powertrains with higher power and torque outputs.
The G20 TGDi mStallion petrol engine produces 119 kW and 330 Nm, while the D22 mHawk diesel develops 111.9 kW and 330 Nm.
The D117 CRDe diesel engine continues to produce 87.2 kW and 300 Nm, with Mahindra confirming that its power and torque figures remain unchanged.
The upgrades suggest Mahindra is trying to broaden the Thar’s abilities beyond its traditional off-road strengths, particularly by improving everyday ride comfort and handling — useful for an SUV whose adventures increasingly include office parking lots as well as mountain trails.

M_Glyde 4G Platform and New Suspension
The new M_Glyde 4G architecture forms the mechanical foundation of the Thar OG. Mahindra says the platform has increased stiffness to improve performance and confidence both on and off the road.
At the rear, a PENTALINK suspension incorporating a Watts Link has been introduced to improve cornering stability and control.
Mahindra has also equipped the SUV with its DAVINCI Damping technology, incorporating Frequency Dependent Damping, or FDD. The system is intended to improve ride comfort by adapting damping characteristics to different road conditions.
An Electric Power Steering system replaces the previous steering arrangement, with the aim of reducing steering effort during everyday manoeuvring.
Additional NVH damping measures have also been incorporated to create a quieter and more refined cabin.
Electronic Locking Differential and Terrain Modes
Off-road capability remains central to the Thar OG.
The SUV receives an Electronic Locking Differential, designed to improve traction in challenging conditions. It is accompanied by selectable terrain modes for Mud, Sand and Snow, which adjust vehicle systems according to the driving surface.
Together with the revised chassis and suspension, the features are intended to expand the Thar’s ability across difficult terrain without sacrificing usability on regular roads.
Familiar Shape, Updated Design
Visually, Mahindra has resisted the temptation to dramatically reinvent the Thar.
The Thar OG retains its upright, boxy proportions but introduces a new grille, revised bumpers and fresh lighting elements.
The SUV receives circular LED headlamps with signature C-shaped daytime running lights, LED ice-cube fog lamps with cornering functionality and new LED taillamps.
A wider track and new 19-inch alloy wheels give the vehicle a broader stance.
Inside, Mahindra has introduced Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, along with a soft second-row armrest incorporating a cupholder.
Two new exterior colours — Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue — join six existing paint options.

Six Airbags and All-Wheel Disc Brakes
Safety equipment has also received significant attention.
The Thar OG comes with six airbags, including what Mahindra describes as four first-in-segment Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder (HPTS) airbags designed to provide additional protection for front and rear occupants.
The SUV is also equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels, an ESP 9.3 suite and front parking sensors.
These additions address an increasingly important consideration in the lifestyle SUV category, where buyers now expect safety and convenience equipment alongside off-road ability.

Thar Brand Crosses 4 Lakh Customers
According to Mahindra, the Thar brand now has more than four lakh customers in India.
The previous-generation three-door Thar, unveiled in 2020, helped expand the market for lifestyle-oriented SUVs by combining traditional off-road ability with more contemporary comfort and technology.
With the Thar OG, Mahindra appears to be taking the same formula further rather than abandoning it. The recognizable shape and off-road focus remain, but improved suspension, steering, safety equipment and stronger engines are aimed at making the three-door SUV easier to live with every day.
At a starting price of ₹10.32 lakh, the Thar OG therefore represents more than a cosmetic update. Mahindra is attempting to preserve the character that built the Thar’s following while addressing the refinement, comfort and safety expectations of a broader generation of SUV buyers — without asking the familiar square-edged silhouette to grow up too much.
