Chennai: Chennai-based mobility technology company BlueBinaries has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Automotive Testing Business of Germany’s MicroNova AG, expanding its capabilities in hardware-in-the-loop testing, test automation, virtual validation and automotive software testing.
The carved-out business will operate as an independent company within the BlueBinaries Group under the new name NovaBinaries GmbH, the companies said.
BlueBinaries said the combined business is projected to generate annual revenue of $50 million, with the company aiming to scale this to $100 million in the following years after the acquisition.
The transaction represents a significant expansion of BlueBinaries’ automotive testing operations as vehicle manufacturers increasingly shift towards software-defined vehicles, electrification and more complex electronic architectures.
MicroNova Testing Business Adds European Technology Base
MicroNova AG, headquartered in Vierkirchen near Munich, has around three decades of experience developing testing and validation technologies for the automotive industry.
Its portfolio includes Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) systems, test automation platforms, virtualisation solutions and engineering services used by automotive companies in Europe.
Among its key technologies is EXAM, MicroNova’s flagship test automation product designed for large-scale testing environments.
Following the transaction, NovaBinaries GmbH will combine MicroNova’s testing products and automotive domain expertise with BlueBinaries’ engineering operations and international customer base.
The new company will focus on software testing solutions covering HiL systems, test automation, virtual validation and Software Test Factories.
BlueBinaries Sees Acquisition as Technology Expansion
Commenting on the acquisition, Srinivas Aravapalli, Founder and CEO of BlueBinaries, said, “The acquisition of MicroNova’s industry-leading HiL Testing and Test Automation business represents a watershed moment in BlueBinaries’ journey towards absolute technological leadership in the global mobility ecosystem. Founded in Chennai, Now Operating Across Global Markets
BlueBinaries was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Chennai. The engineering and technology company works with automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers and technology companies across vehicle engineering, digital engineering, testing and homologation.
The company has engineering operations across India, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, the United States, South Korea and Saudi Arabia, according to BlueBinaries.
Its services span vehicle electrical and electronic engineering, systems development, digital engineering, enterprise IT, testing and homologation.
The company has increasingly focused on technologies associated with next-generation mobility, including Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), E/E architectures, electrification and shared mobility.
Software Testing Gains Importance as Cars Become More Digital
The acquisition comes as automotive development increasingly resembles software engineering with wheels attached. Modern vehicles depend on growing amounts of software to control functions ranging from powertrain and battery management to infotainment and advanced driver-assistance systems.
That shift has increased the importance of automated validation, virtual testing and HiL systems, which allow manufacturers and engineering teams to test electronic control units and vehicle software under simulated real-world conditions before deploying them in production vehicles.
For BlueBinaries, the MicroNova transaction adds established European testing technologies to its existing engineering services portfolio. The formation of NovaBinaries GmbH also gives the group a dedicated platform for expanding its automotive software-testing business as the global industry moves deeper into the software-defined and AI-driven vehicle era.
