Electric intercity bus operator Fresh Bus has launched a Bengaluru–Hyderabad AC sleeper service, marking its first route of more than 600 km and its entry into long-haul electric bus operations.
The new service connects two of South India’s biggest technology and business centres and will use ultra-fast charging stops during the journey to support long-distance electric operations.
Fresh Bus said it is the first intercity electric bus operator to deploy this ultra-fast charging technology on the Bengaluru–Hyderabad corridor and claimed the deployment is also a first for intercity electric bus operations in India.
The charging halts will double as passenger rest stops, with clean restroom facilities planned along the route. For a journey stretching beyond 600 km, the opportunity to charge both the bus and, figuratively speaking, its passengers is likely to be equally important.
The company will operate 13.5-metre all-sleeper air-conditioned electric buses with 36 sleeper berths on the route.
At full deployment, Fresh Bus expects the Bengaluru–Hyderabad service to carry approximately 18,000 passengers a month. It is targeting an initial occupancy of around 80%, increasing to approximately 90% as the service matures.
According to the company, its existing routes typically operate at occupancy levels in the mid-to-high 80% range.

36-Berth Electric Sleeper Coaches
The buses have been designed specifically for overnight and long-distance journeys, with ergonomic air-conditioned sleeper berths.
Passengers will receive sanitised bedsheets, pillows and blankets, while each berth will have reading lights and charging points. A complimentary snack box and water bottle will also be provided.
Fresh Bus said the coaches are equipped with fire extinguishers, emergency exits and emergency hammers, CCTV cameras and speed-governed operations. The company will also conduct alcohol checks for bus captains.
The Bengaluru–Hyderabad corridor sees substantial movement linked to business, education, technology, leisure and family travel. Both cities are major centres for the technology and startup industries, while also hosting significant aerospace, education and corporate activity.
Fresh Bus is positioning the service around what it sees as changing expectations among intercity travellers, with comfort, safety, punctuality and the overall journey experience increasingly influencing passenger choices alongside fares.
The company also expects sustainability to become a bigger consideration for intercity travellers, particularly younger passengers and corporate customers.
Electric buses can reduce tailpipe emissions and vehicle noise compared with conventional combustion-engine buses, although the overall environmental impact depends on factors including electricity generation and operating conditions.
Fresh Bus Plans Further Expansion
Fresh Bus currently operates 13 routes and said it has served 25.6 lakh passengers across its network so far.
The Bengaluru–Hyderabad service is intended to act as a test of the company’s long-haul electric operating model before similar services are considered for other high-demand intercity corridors.
Fresh Bus also plans to introduce additional routes connected with Bengaluru and Hyderabad as it expands its network in southern India.
Tickets for the Bengaluru–Hyderabad service will be available through the Fresh Bus app and website as well as major online travel agencies.
The route represents an important test not just for Fresh Bus, but for the broader development of long-distance electric intercity transport in India. While electric buses have steadily expanded into shorter urban and intercity operations, successful deployment on 600-km-plus corridors could help determine how quickly battery-powered buses move into the country’s longer overnight travel market.
