Toyota Drives Change in Gujarat: From Libraries and Digital Buses to Healthcare and Skills Training

Ahmedabad: Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is proving that its vision extends well beyond building cars. In a significant step towards community development, the automaker has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to strengthen education, healthcare and skill development initiatives across the state, with an estimated impact on more than 9.67 lakh people.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, senior government officials and Toyota leadership, including Geetanjali Vikram Kirloskar, Chairperson and Managing Director of Kirloskar Systems Pvt. Ltd., and Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Governance at Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

While Toyota is best known for moving people on roads, this latest initiative aims to move communities forward through education, digital empowerment, healthcare access and technical skill development.

Libraries That Go Beyond Books

One of the key highlights of the initiative is the establishment of community libraries designed to encourage reading habits and lifelong learning. These modern facilities are equipped with air-conditioning, CCTV security and solar-powered infrastructure, creating a comfortable and sustainable environment for learners of all age groups.

Toyota estimates that these libraries will benefit more than three lakh individuals, helping create accessible spaces where knowledge takes the driver’s seat.

An Electric Bus Carrying More Than Students

In Surat, Toyota has introduced a unique Mobile Computer Education Electric Bus, bringing digital literacy directly to rural communities. The specially designed bus will travel across five blocks of Surat district, providing students with access to computer education and essential digital skills.

The initiative is expected to benefit around 8,000 students, ensuring that technology reaches classrooms even when classrooms cannot easily reach technology. It may be one of the few buses in India where the passengers leave with coding skills instead of just a ticket.

Preparing Gujarat’s Youth for Tomorrow’s Jobs

Toyota has also expanded its renowned Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) at the Government ITI in Jamnagar. The programme is designed to bridge the gap between industry requirements and vocational education by providing advanced training in automotive service and maintenance.

Covering 29 trades, including Mechanic Motor Vehicle (MMV), Fitter and Painter, the initiative will support approximately 3,700 students, enhancing employability and preparing young professionals for careers in the automotive and manufacturing sectors.

Boosting Rural Healthcare Infrastructure

Healthcare forms another important pillar of the partnership. Toyota will provide critical medical equipment to Community Health Centres in Rajkot, strengthening healthcare delivery in rural areas.

The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 6.5 lakh community members, improving access to advanced medical facilities and supporting affordable healthcare services closer to home.

A Broader Vision of Social Responsibility

Speaking about the initiative, Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Governance, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said that the company’s efforts in Gujarat reflect a holistic approach to social responsibility. He thanked the Government of Gujarat for its support and emphasized Toyota’s continued commitment to developing innovative CSR programmes that create lasting social impact.

The latest collaboration reinforces Toyota’s broader philosophy of contributing to society beyond mobility solutions. By combining education, digital inclusion, healthcare and skill development under a single umbrella, the company aims to create meaningful and sustainable change across Gujarat.

In an era where automakers are racing towards electric mobility and future technologies, Toyota’s Gujarat initiative serves as a reminder that sometimes the most important journeys are not measured in kilometres, but in the number of lives positively transformed along the way.
